Synopsis

The Holy Britannian Empire is a powerful nation that uses its military strength to expand its rule, and the small island nation of Japan is yet another victim. During a worldwide conflict in 2010 known as the Second Pacific War, the once-proud country was reduced to rubble and mockingly renamed to Area 11.

However, one student plans to free Japan from Britannia's control through an extraordinary rebellion. His name is Lelouch Lamperouge, and he is fueled with hatred for the Empire, plotting to wipe its accursed name off the face of the planet. Lelouch's malicious plans are unexpectedly accelerated upon meeting the mysterious woman C.C., who grants him a supernatural ability known as Geass that makes anyone Lelouch commands unable to defy his will.

Now armed with a devastating power, Lelouch assumes the persona of Zero, a revolutionary figure who carries the hopes and dreams of the oppressed around the world. He vows to restore the glorious nation of Japan and deliver divine retribution to Britannia.

Wow. This was worth watching.

In my experience anime movies, where they recount the series anew, typically fail hard on expectations. Koudou has surpassed expectations. It recaptures the important character drama with renewed depth and focus, leaving this a sentimental re-take. Certain events are limitted while many are expounded -- making this a memorable addition to the Code Geass story which is a must watch for any fan of the series.

Overview:
The story follows what we'd expect, but with renewed focus
The art style is amazing as always, I'm pleasently shocked that the animation for the entire feature seems to be from the ground up.

Mixed Feelings
Painfully average is how I would describe my entire experience with this movie. I watched this right after I finished the original anime series and I was not expecting to dislike this movie so much. In my opinion, the movie has neutered what made the show so great. The building of the characters and the world. I get they have to cram a lot of ideas and plot into a small time frame, but the entire movie just failed to capture the original feeling of the anime. Everything felt rushed and barely explained. Almost all the school scenes were cut out. While I am happy ...

Much like with most recap movies, there is no reason to watch this. This movie condenses roughly 13 episodes of material (around 4 hours) into just over 2 hours. The way they accomplish this is by speeding up the pace of both the story and dialogue to absurd degrees. This creates no time to process what is going on in the story for new viewers. There's also not enough time to properly establish many of the dynamics between characters that are important for the story.

Newcomers to the series will be confused and overwhelmed by how fast things move. Previous fans will (or at least should) ...
