Armed Blue Gunvolt

Armed Blue Gunvolt, this name sounds wonderfully both classy and melodious to those ears of mine. At first I was expecting this episode to be the first of a series and I was all the more hyped, but it turned so it was only an one-episode long special show ; which doesn't bring it less quality than it indeed showed. Armed Blue Gunvolt seems promoting an eponym series and videogame, and dear I'm ready to get more invested in this series if it's that awesome !

Story (9) :

The pacing was fast, but comprehensive, the story dealt on the lore of this game and, as ... it was about the beginning of an established series I bet they had to follow another more settled timeline, but this was anime introduced the right way, and there was no other way it could be improved ; starting on action with such completing animation for the action plot, really preparing for a series filled with treason, ideals and betrayals ! But that is just me surmising on this gem of animation.

Art (9) :

Filled with the blue and black contrast I affiliate with science-fiction, filled too with a dark environment and an atmosphere brought out by the sound track, although animation plans were similar to other series it has long proven to be effective. Besides I do not believe so the art-style and animation has most to deal with story telling rather than immersion to the lore, and characters are the most prominent aspects of a show.

Sound (8) :

I believe so there was only one song affiliated to this short episode, and that was a vocaloid song, pretty cool indeed, this enhances the core of science-fiction and I loved the sound track, and even the dubbing was pretty well made !

Character (9) :

The one most introduced is clearly Gun Volt, and he is so cool and strong and beautiful and classy ; perhaps is he in the series the main character as well ? He has this charm not many shounen characters have, and his character design albeit normal made him resort from the whole of the cast.

Enjoyment (9) :

Rarely seen something such in a science-fiction environment, all series and games and medias counted. Awesome immersion, beautiful pacing, this was state-of-the-art jewelry.

Overall (9) :

I expected it to be average, and this was awesome, that is why you really should at least watch it, and I don't see what more to say. Now is time I investigate more on this license !

Gunvolt, a game that I've watched the walk through for because I do not have the money to buy it on eshop. I don't even know how to put money on eshop. I absolutely loved the game and I was even more excited for the anime. But there are things that they should of done to improve it.

Story: 4

Compared to the game itself, it mostly showed the very beginning. This leads me to disappointment as I was expecting a lot more than just the beginning. If they were targeting people to go play the game, they did a good job. To gunvolt fans who waited ... forever hit the dust as it was just about the beginning. In a story, there is a beginning, middle and end. We have one thing but where is everything else!?!

Art: 8

I really liked the art style in this episode. It really gives that spark. Especially when the blue lighting kind of flashes. Sadly when it came to a long battle. The portals kind of confused me.

Sound: 6

It was pretty decent. It did give energy, especially to the ones who have played the game as the song is recognisable but it was mostly all lumen. I know there is more music then that. Especially during the fight. What could of made it better is some dramatic fight music!

Character: 4

Where the heck is the character build!?! Yes, I know that it's hard to do something like that in 21 minutes. I bet anyone that has watched this and is basically new are wondering what is QUILL's main objective, what is the sumeragi and how many are they, what is an adept? If they did a whole series. It would give them time to build up more character in not just the main character but the supporting also. I'm betting right now that first timers only remember 2 names and it's pretty obvious what those names are.

Enjoyment: 7

I really enjoyed it. What I never expected was Gunvolt wearing glasses and all that normal attire. It just gives fangirls a squeal. Like I said before, it was quite confusing with all the portals. Although I did really hate that it was only available on eshop. It would of reached far if the good quality was available for other devices.

Overall: 6

I enjoyed this one short episode. I believe it would of been better to have it as a series than a 21 minute video. There was so much left out just by doing one episode. Like Danganronpa. It started as a game. It had a 13 episode series which not only attracted people to play it but also to play the sequel and other games in the DanganRonpa franchise. Other than that, I liked it!

In many ways, Azure Striker Gunvolt (the anime) reminds me of MegaMan X – The Day of Sigma, not only in that they’re both based in very similar games, but in that this OVA serves more as a companion to the main game than anything else, showing basically the tutorial and how the main characters get to meet each other for the first time. However, when evaluated by itself, the OVA falls flat. At times, it is vague on terms and concepts of the setting, while also not really showing a complete story, giving more airs of a pilot than anything else.

If you have already ... played the game, or are interested in trying it, this will be a nice watch. But if you don’t, you won’t be missing on much by skipping it.
