As a child, Masamune Makabe once suffered greatly at the hands of a wealthy and beautiful girl named Aki Adagaki, who nicknamed him "Piggy" due to his chubby appearance. Seeking revenge against his tormentor, Masamune works hard to improve himself and returns as an incredibly handsome, albeit narcissistic, high school student. When he encounters Aki once again, he is prepared to exact vengeance.
With the aid of the rich girl's maid, Yoshino Koiwai, Masamune slowly begins to build his relationship with Aki, intending to break her heart when the time is right. However, as his friendship with Aki begins to grow, Masamune starts to question the objectives of his devious plans, and if bringing them to fruition is what his heart truly desires.
What makes Masamune-kun no Revenge worth a 10/10 rating. Give me a chance to persuade you into giving this anime a chance and you'll know too.
[I put a questionnaire at the bottom if you're not big into reading]
Let's get personal for a second here. Is that cool? Well, you can't respond and even if you could, I'd still tell you, so I'm just going to get into it. I have seen many anime. I'm not a anime connoisseur, but I've seen some anime... From the worst (and I mean the worst *shivers*) to the greatest. Some may say I have a problem. I binge anime like a bag of chips; 50 episodes in 24 hours i completely doable for me. With that said, not many anime piques my interests anymore. I've been subjected to most every trope, cliche and really, any originality out there as of this moment. Yet, this very significantly average anime has me, a seventeen year old male, squealing and hyperventilating. Nobody will ever see this side of me. Not my parents, nor my significant other, nor my future children. This hasn't happened since I was thirteen. Precisely four years ago, when I first discovered anime.
What's so great about it? It's an anime that kind of reminds me of when bad anime was just the bees knees. When you first start watching anime, you most likely watched some stuff that you'd look back on now and think "how in the hell did I actually endure that garbage?"
Well, this anime was like an amazing time travel adventure for me. It may be average, its filled with tropes and it has cliches littered around like a where's waldo book, but you'll love it anyways. You won't need any insane premise to excite you (Like titans, robots, super powers, no, you won't need any of it). All you'll need, is this. What makes it different from the rest? The fact that it owns it, the cliches, tropes, etc. It's lighthearted, its fun, it's a very enjoyable watch. It wasn't trying to cover up those flaws, but instead used them to it's advantage. I felt like I was a prepubescent kid again. I was curled up, smiling in the dark like I was possessed by demons, actually enjoying an anime that some might not even have looked twice upon.
Give this anime a try. I have lots to say, but I have rewritten this review at least nine times and finally decided that an average review would be fitting for an anime that is -seemingly- average as well. It has been at least four hours since I started and I just keep going overboard, so in exchange for those four hours, I'll ask you to give this anime four episodes. That's how you'll know if this anime is for you.
If you want an anime that you will mark up as a surprisingly great experience, this is the one. The best I can add is that if you enjoyed "Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!" you will definitely enjoy this. They're both cliche in a good way and very light.
To those who like a more professional outlook on an anime, I will say this. The art, sound and story are about average. Pretty typical for its genre. The character development isn't the greatest, but shines when it comes to the main character and interaction between the plot and other characters. The main character was really relatable, which was nice to see for a change. Overall though, the enjoyment was off the charts. It is a refreshing anime (due how it goes about progressing as a harem/romcom) that will be great for those 2AM Sunday night binges that will make you hate life in the morning.
►This is a small questionnaire made for fun that may be nice if you don't have time to be beaten 'round the bush. ◄

> 8 points - I recommend only giving this anime one episode to prove itself, since this anime doesn't seem to be up your alley.
>= 8 points - I really suggest trying to get into this anime and like I said before, give it at least a good 4 episodes.
It's not the most accurate little questionnaire, but I gave it a few tries and showed a couple friends and it seems decent enough. If none of what I said is getting you, then just check the anime out. One attempt to watch a show/movie/anything never killed anybody, unless we're talking about The Ring. That will kill you.
Thanks for reading, I hope this review helped!read more
Since there are only 4 episodes out, I will be giving my first impressions for this anime.
Masamune-kun's Revenge seems at face value, the virtue of blandness. A plot of blurb that anyone can read so generically and your typical protagonist. However, I don't find that to be the case as I actually find the protagonist quite likable. The revenge theme is also something that rarely happens in the romance genre so the plot isn't exactly linear and boring.
Masamune-kun's Revenge is interesting as it is able to take a rehashed idea and execute it with the sort of panache that leaves you wanting more. By the end of the first episode, I was left speculating about what directions the anime could take. The second, third and fourth episodes are also pretty decent so far.
The music of the romance genre is notorious for being generic. The OP and ED animation sequences are overdone-to death cuts from your typical romance anime. They are either happy-go-lucky or sad depending on the sub-genre. However, the songs accompanying this anime are actually ringtone-worthy.
The art and the animation in a simple sentence, I would say it’s not at all masterpiece level, but it is gorgeous. I have no complaints here. The character designs look very appealing which I also have no issue with at all.
All in all, Masamune-kun's Revenge is an anime I will definitely be seeing through this to the end, even if it ends up going downhill later on.read more
Story - 7 -
This show is simply another harem show with a twist plot premise, if you like harem, then you'll probably enjoy this too cause its got a spice originality in it to make it fun. However that being said, there is a chance that it might suffer from what I might call the Nisekoi or to-love ru syndrome of having too many characters and a plot that doesn't develop. Although this worry may not necessarily come true as its going to be a one cour anime making it short but sweet :) (the manga kinda did become one as I read it a while back)
Art - 9 -
Siver link of course high quality art :P
Sound - 8 -
Since I can't really judge the bgm alone this far, I judge this solely based on the Choucho ED xd
Character - 7 -
The characters in this series are.... somewhat unique to an extent. While the main character might be somewhat lackluster he certainly has a special trait that sort of makes him unique, he's quite narcissistic, which makes for decent comedic relief. The main heroine is pretty much a Tsundere who's only Tsun but no dere right now. Where as the only sub heroine introduced currently being a Kuudere, and a servant of the main heroine.
Overall - 8 -
With a cast full of famous seiyuus, a high budget silver link in charge of the animation, and a decent source material, I honestly don't think anything can go bad with this show. If I'm not incorrect, this would probably be one of the most popular shows this season. (probably one of those where you talk about it for half a year then it disappears for a while before season 2's announced :P) read more
Now after the all girls yuri season (basically) known as the fall season of 2016, Masamune-kun no Revenge is a breath of fresh air. Makabe Masamune, the handsome, vengeful, unorthodox light novel protagonist (thank goodness), decides to go through a major makeover after a tragic incident in his childhood to get revenge. Now, of course every good protagonist needs a faithful sidekick/person who explains the entire school and stuff and a teacher right? For Masamune, that's a trap (Kojuurou Shuri) and a shoujo manga (and another person later, but that's a spoiler) full of cheesy lines that Masamune shameless recites in order to make girls fall at his feet in love. As the story progresses, Masamune falls into countless traps and obstacles that face his way. Join Masamune through his hilarious and enjoyable (and puzzling? much later in the manga) adventure in ensuring his revenge.
Note: I dont know why I made it sound like a promotional commercial but... thats what happened.
Each character is so well developed that the I couldn't help but fall in love with because of his/her quirks and different personalities. Masamune with his hilarious but shameful shoujo lines, Aki with her tsundere personality, Yoshino and her dedication to Aki, and of course Neko (who comes later in the manga and probably in the anime), a cute, foxy fragile girl that you can't help but like.read more
