This is a perfect example of all the worst things that Studio Key does.
The story has a long boring build up, with little bits of intrigue splashed in that never lead anywhere. The ending is a typical Key ending that tries to tug on the heartstring in the cheapest ways possible. Not only does the ending come off as a complete non sequitur (that is a fancy word for asspull), but the ending also undercuts the whole message of the show.
