Two young wrestlers face each other in a recently revived underground wrestling organization, the Tiger's Lair, which destroyed the wrestling dojo they grew up in. One took over the training facilities of Naoto Date at the foot of Mount Fuji, as well as the mask he left behind. The other dared to enter the Tiger's Lair and won a fierce competition, receiving a jet-black tiger mask. One tiger walks the path of light, while the other walks the path of shadows. Neither one knows the other's face. On the ring, they are natural enemies, but they have the same purpose—destroy the Tiger's Lair!
OK, it's my first review. I hope you find it helpful.
Tiger Mask W is about vendetta/vengeance. The main characters Naoto Azuma and Takuma Fuji want to become stronger to defeat the fighter Yellow Devil, who injured severely Daisuke Fuji. The plot is not innovator, but it's works very well for a wrestler anime. Besides that, the story talks about honor, loyalty, perseverance, friendship and hope, like the good manly shounen should be.
Character development: 6/10
Naoto and Takuma want revenge, but they do not choose the same path to reach the goal. While Naoto chooses become a symbol of the fight against the establishment, Takuma choose
to use the establishment in his favor to become stronger and them conquest his goal. For Naoto and Takuma, it's all about revenge, but Naoto take it in a more human way. Villains have weak development yet, they are just bad guys that do bad things and some of them just want money and power.
Haruna Takaoka is used as comic relief and it is ok. It is not the worst, neither the best comic relief in anime.
It is without doubt weakest point in this series. Even the character design is not good in this. It's animation is not fluid, sometimes it is like some slideshow. I don't know what Toei Animation is trying to do with that quality. It is simply outdated and cheap. However, the OP is great and has a nostalgic feel.
Music in this anime is exciting. You can feel testosterone flowing in your veins. It makes you feel happiness, nostalgic feelings and resemble great Tokusatsu themes.
The OP and ED are fantastic.
So far, i am enjoying it a lot. For me, it is just like oldschool fighting animes, so manly and fantastic. It is worth to watch if you seek nowadays oldschool animes.
you take a what is pretty much a japanese legend and turn it into a anime and you get this. you have two tigers with the same goal but trying to achieve it in different ways. one picks the more villain like route an the other a more heroic one kind of like a split of the original tiger mask, which started as a villain but saw the effect it had on the children that watched and became the hero.
This show is very outdated and in turn makes me feel like a kid again. but i that a good thing as a viewer yes
but as a critic no. for today's standards the story is bland, the animation is choppy and bad, the characters can be a hit or a miss but i really enjoy it. the music is really fun and i can listen to the op all day. compared to shows when this should of been released it is really good. if your looking for a classic feel 9/10, otherwise 5 or 6/10.
