I've seen the 3 episodes released thus far, and since a lot of people seem to be disliking the show, i decided to write this review.
So far, i'm enjoying this anime. How much? Well, i literally rewatched the episode 3 about 2 times already.
Why am i liking it?
Its a rather new concept (Created, but not written by the author of NGNL, he created the idea and passed it to someone else), which is interesting. This is something everyone agrees on, the premise is kind of interesting.
But if i had to say what makes me enjoy this show the most? Its the setting and relations
between characters. It feels like characters are genuine, realistic and answer like a normal person would. You know how some generic anime have the MC be a wuss and is so dense he cant jump off the ground? Well, this show doesnt have it so far. Characters are charming, and jokes are funny but not exaggerated, just on point.
Why i think people are dropping it or not getting past it?
I can see why. This anime falls into the "3 episode rule" way more than i'd like it to. It has a lot of things that dont make much sense at the start instead of diving into the real point of the story that while helping world building and character development up to a point, kinda make it look off as a generic boring anime.
The biggest offender of this, is the first episode. It has ecchi/generic moments that honestly have no place nor relationship or mean in how the show develops on the later 2 episodes. There's literally no reason for them to be there and makes me wonder why they did it.
Another point may be that the art is not good and looks taken out from a show from 2010. I can see where they are going and agree, but after 3 episodes in, even me (Who is a blue-ray quality seeker elitist) got used to it and kinda feel it goes with the show story.
I asked a friend if he was watching this show, and he told me he dropped it on episode one becouse it was generic and bad. I asked him to watch until episode 3, and now he's as interested in this show as i am.
TLDR; 3 Episode rule for this one. If you dont like it by then, i'll let you drop it and say it was bad.
PD: I'll update this probably later down the line with next episodes to see how this goes.
This isn't so much a review than it is a warning, or helpful tip. Clockwork Planet doesn't seem like it's going to be a "bad" anime by any means. In fact, I believe a lot of people will enjoy this show.
However, if you're not one for a lot of fanservice or "ecchi," then this isn't the anime for you. There are scenes from the very beginning that are very off putting, that seem like they're there for no good reason at all.
Now, I'm not sure about you but, for me anyway, there's too much of it there, even though the story does seem
like it could get really good, to get over it. If you're someone like me who can't get passed these scenes to focus on the story, then there's no point in even watching the first episode. Clockwork Planet isn't a show that hides it in only a few scenes, it lets you know very early on, which is a good thing.
But if you're someone who does enjoy scenes like this, then this is definitely the anime for you this season.. Enjoy!
