Taifuu no Noruda

Just like my previous review i won't compare this show to anything else due to the simple fact i'm reviewing this and nothing else.
OK lets keep this pretty quick and straightforward.
1st of all i wanna touch on the story side of things, i neither like it or dislike it ,it's a rushed 30 minute movie i treated it more like an OVA ,which it basically is.
There is a story but its so short there no point on me talking about it ,the synopsis itself tells u most of what's going on.

-Its visual appeal was really good ,i enjoyed the animation thoroughly.
-The sounds, ost's and what ... not ,are very appealing and fit that.. let's call it setting.
-Characters well they are pretty lovable even within that short 30 minutes ,but i got nothing furthermore to add to that.

To be honest just watch it, its 30 minutes it's a great animation overall ,just kick back grab a drink and watch it.

A sketched taifuu, that’s it.
My main feel after watching it ? Incomplete. It’s like seeing a sketch before the final painting.

• Story : 6/10 •

It feels really unfinished, there is really too much big action and issues with not enough content and explanations.
It's like "Hello here's all my ideas, then bye!".
There, an attempt to a beautiful friendship between two boys passionate seeing their first fight.
There, a mysterious (naked) beautiful girl
There, an attempt to big deep world-crushing quest
... There, an attempt to romance
There 25 min of attempting something worth of 90 min.
Everything feels like it’s been just brushed on the surface, a big sketch.

• Characters 6/10 •

2 childhood friends and a mysterious girl.
That was too quick, but I liked the story between the 2 main childhood friends.
Nonetheless we are able to feel their passion about baseball with a really short flashback and how they care for each other.
The main girl, well … she’s pretty I guess, mysterious and maybe strong but ... she might have said like three sentences in the whole show and just left leaving her name.

• Art : 3/10 •

I feel like this kind of movie have a goal to be contemplative and beautiful to compensate the shortness and the attempts, but… can’t say it was beautiful.
The animation of the typhoon wasn’t spectacular, even the robot thing feel bland.

• Sound : 5/10•

I actually watched this movie because of the female voice actress, Kiyohara Kaya, I love her grave and deep tone, but… you can feel my disappointment when I said the main female character only said like 3 sentences.
The music was nice but not memorable

• Enjoyment : 4/10 •

Not sure if I must feel thankful for it being only 25 min of my time or sad of a great potential wasted.

• Overall : 5/10 •

Well, if you like the staff or studio you can give it a try, since it’s only one episode of your time, but otherwise you should rather prefer watching another episode of your current series.

Oh look, it seems I’ve finally found the origin of these terribly explained, water/weather-themed, sci-fi, romance, amalgamation anime movies.

Now, let me lead with a question:
Name for me a movie where a teenage girl possessing some form of vaguely explained water/weather manipulation abilities meets a boy who somehow helps to resolve the issue all while growing a romantic attachment to her. The animation in said film is absolutely breathtaking, a clear attempt to distract from the fact the narrative is disjointed and illogical, while explanations are skipped over or just downright nonexistent. Maybe if the director is feeling ‘creative’, they’ll swap the genders around or change ... their ages. Either way, I’m sure the core premise sounds very familiar to most of you.

More than likely, most of you immediately thought of “Tenki no Ko”, the 2019 amalgamation which I am only now discovering is somehow a partial rip-off of a film nearly as bad. If not, perhaps “Bubble” came to mind, the 2020 film only marginally more tolerable. Maybe if you’re a bit more versed with your movies, “Ride your Wave” popped onto your radar, or even “Drifting Home” albeit to a lesser extent. Finally, if you’re reading this immediately after watching “Typhoon Noruda”, that’s your pick.

Congratulations, because if you guessed any of those films, you’d be correct! They’re all the exact same film with minor alterations that make them range anywhere from “tolerable” to “how is it possible for something to be this idiotic?”.

If you’re like me and has seen and despised every single one of the aforementioned movies, you can finally rest easy knowing what started this awful trend. THIS MOVIE RIGHT HERE is the origin of all that wasted time and potential.

Coming out in 2015 with beautiful animation but an abysmal and nonsensical storyline, Taifuu no Naruda is the original “who cares about making a coherent plot with logical lore, just make it look nice” movie. As usual, expect to see cardboard cutouts instead of characters, friendships that mean nothing, and romance which never carries any weight behind it, all while beautiful animation plays in the hopes you will forget that movies are generally supposed to have coherent plots to be considered ‘good’.

Thankfully, this particular piece wasted less than 30 minutes of my time as opposed to the feature-length ones, so I won’t be giving this the lowest rating of them all.

At this point, it’s becoming a mission for me to uncover each and every one of these terrible stories, if only to see just how far the ‘bottom of the barrel’ will go. My apologies for the rant-like format, I am truly sick of seeing resources poured into projects without competent storytelling when so many beautifully written indie mangas deserve to be adapted with this money instead.
