Myself; Yourself is the prime example of wasted potential. It opened strong and gave me high hopes for a good series, but it soon became apparent that it was going to go down fast.
The story was my biggest disappointment. It really felt like a series based on a visual novel, there was a lot of story, but nothing to really hold it together. The pacing of the series felt sluggish, a lot of the conflicts could have been resolved faster. It felt as though half of the series was dedicated to Hinako, the little girl, even though she had nothing to do

Friendship. Jealousy. Deception. Myself ; Yourself proves that you can present good elements for a drama and still be a failure. The show is misleading as it introduces characters facing solid dilemma but depends on dissatisfying deus ex machina to solve their problems or leave events incomplete altogether. The characters are weak and majorly lack development. It wastes screentime on irrelevant characters and scenes, causing it to rush and throw in last-minute sob stories. Basically, Myself ; Yourself is just another VN gone wrong.
Myself ; Yourself had interesting themes suitable for slice-of-life. It replaced cliché results one would likely expect from romance drama with unpredictable ... Nov 27, 2016
Eh... I expected worse.
This show is not generic. It may seem like one, but you can tell that when you watch it that they're really trying to do something else with the whole high school romance thing. It is however very forgettable. Let me just address the art first. I see a lot of people in the reviews praising how well the backgrounds are and how well the characters are animated. In my personal opinion, the backgrounds were fairly good, but nothing special. I barely paid attention to it. The characters are not animated in any special way. It's just typical anime animation. I did not ... Dec 29, 2010
“So you see….I AM the murderer.”
- Azumanga Daioh This is a strange little anime. There’s nothing inherently wrong with strange; Osaka is strange and weird and wonderful. The people of Myself Yourself are strange and creepy and painful. On the day that Sana is to move away from his friends, we are given snapshots of each of them as they were once upon a time. Cheerful and soft-hearted Aoi bakes a cake, and smudges the icing with her tears. Shuri knits a mitten, a single one, offering it to Sana in the midst of an affectionate altercation with her twin brother, Shuu. Shuu gives Sana a ... Jul 21, 2013
An anime that shows its true colors towards the end of the series; and those colors are vibrant and true. In many ways did I find this anime to be average in terms of entertainment. However, the depth to the characters are what the show portrays quite well, for I also believe that was the major purpose of this anime. So please do not expect any X's or O's.
It is worth watching until the end for only then may one fully appreciate what this anime was about, since that's how I feel being that I finished the series just now. Feb 6, 2015
Overall
A cute but very divided story. There are many good ideas in here, but they are badly carried out with poor directing, poor animation and pretty indifferent voice acting. All in all, this could have been good, but it isn't. I heard the game is better, though. Animation Backgrounds and general design looks pretty good, with nice visuals like sakura, sunbeams, lighting effects and similar. However, when it comes to animation, movement, poses, facial expressions and stuff that are supposed to make the story come alive, most of it looks stiff and unnatural. It's really annoying since each still frame looks good, but animated, it is a failure. ... Mar 3, 2014
12 Episodes. After 12 of the 13 episodes, I had pretty much made up my mind on the series. I had even thought of most of what I was going to say in my review of it. By in large, the characters were either bland or their actions half the time (Nanaka) didn't make any sense. It seemed like it was trying to have some kind of deeper plot going on below the surface, but it wasn't really clicking. There was a definite lack of focus, something that a show with only 13 episodes really cannot afford to have, in my opinion.
But the 13th episode....that ... Dec 2, 2013
Sana Hidaka a sixteen year old high school student returns to his hometown Sakuranomori after five years, re-united with his childhood friends Nanaka, Aoi, Shusuke and Shuri. Sana attempts to return to the life he once had in his hometown, but time has changed Sakuranomori and its inhabitants as secrets and past memories haunt the five friends that could very well decimate their once peaceful and happy lives.
This anime started off incredibly slow when introducing the characters and going over past events had taken place which took up a good few episodes. As the series progressed it gave hints of events that had happened ... Sep 9, 2013
The first thing you notice when you begin watching Myself;Yourself is that of the art style. The long faced style of the characters, simple designs and non-distinguished clothing can be a rather large turn off to the viewer. Likewise the passable animation quality can be annoying to a viewer that wants everything to be a work of art. From simply animating more than just the characters hands clapping, or lip sync the show lacks a lot of what one could find beautiful. This is most aptly shown by the opening of the show, which utilizes a concert scene. Similar scenes in other shows use accurate

I first really started paying attention to Myself:Yourself when I heard that Takumi Nakazawa, the scenario writer for the infinity series and Mutsumi Sasaki (original character designs ie memories off, futakoi) were part of this. Ami Koshimizu playing the lead female role cemented this on my watch list. It’s also interesting to note that Myself:Yourself has 2 male leads, unlike most visual novels. Yes, two male protagonist, not one male lead and token/comedic male friend, but 2 complete male lead. This enables the show to follow multiple stories at once, ala Kimikiss anime version. However, I would soon learn that

Everyone has said what is basically needed to be said. It looks like a typical harem, but it's different. It's like a bad soap opera met an anime.
Like a bad teen romance soap. To start, the characters are terrible. The constant change of personality, obvious bending of character traits to fit the story; the list goes on. This has a drastic impact on the story, as well. The story, though, is almost impossible to follow half of the time. Every episode brings a different story to it, only carrying certain things through to the next episodes. The ... Jul 26, 2013
Contains mild spoiler.
Animes based on visual novels have the potential to be extremely bad, and cliched. Myselfl; Yourself fortunately dodged a few bullets. For starters, it didn’t go into the harem genre (where all girls are into the same ordinary guy for no understandable reason). It is not an overly original anime, but it has its very own interesting plot. Are the characters and situations cliched? Sure. Is the story that bad? No. It is an anime about romance, where one relationship blossoms as the protagonists come to terms with traumatic life events. This anime deserves credit for being quite realistic despite its dramatic plot points. ... Mar 26, 2019
The worst romance anime I've ever watched, the writing is a terrible mess, first it wasted 2 episodes on an unimportant loli character (yes the story would be perfectly fine without her since she didn't affect the other character's development).
And the character development itself is pretty slow, it hints the main characters past but it drags on for too long, by the time it came it's already the last episode so it feels so rushed and I don't feel any emotional impact from it, the build up for the climax was simply not enough. Not to mention almost every side characters were annoying af (principal, ... Sep 7, 2012
Myself;Yourself, from a first glance, looks as if it would be just another harem with similar aspects to any other. It does have some things that are quite similar and repetitive to this genre (e.g. just transferred in). This story is still kind of predictable but not as much many others. The ending wasn't the best though. It seemed kind of rushed (time skip was kind of random) and left a couple of questions unanswered (like what happened to Suusuke and Shuri??)that will probably remain unanswered. I'm not sure if they're answered in the visual novel or not because I have not played this one.

This anime was good in the beginning and then it started getting a little angst and a depressing towards the end....it was getting dark

SoL TW topics DRAMA-FILLED crazy depending on the viewer but somewhat cute romance not really much of a storyline as expected from a SoL but it’s not that bad broke my initial expectations. The beginning half isn’t much to go on about. It’s solid but towards the middle/end, it does get more interesting. You shouldn’t get into it if you don’t have the patience but I really recommend the later portion of the show. It is a bit on the older end and source does come from a VN from way back into the days. In my opinion, it’s one of the better VN adaptation.

I haven't written a review in a while but this will be short. Also, don't be alarmed by my score because I rate things based on a personal scale of bias and a 5/10 is still worthy of attention.
I enjoyed Myself;Yourself much more than I expected I would after watching the first episode. Without giving too much away, I can say for sure this is one of the most deceptive animes out there betraying the initial impression it chooses to give off in the beginning; there are only a couple subtle hints here and there in the first five episodes that clue the audience in ... Myself; Yourself was released over a decade ago, but it depicts some issues still - unfortunately - recurring nowadays. It's an anime with sweet and funny moments, although it is mostly about friendship, coming of age, depression, GAD and PTSD disorders. It can certainly get very dark sometimes, so trigger warning. Although I enjoyed how they displayed the mental illnesses, with some character developing a lot more than I expected (at first I figured it would be mostly about Sana and Nanaka), it still felt a little "vague"? I wish other characters would've been more exploited, and that would require more episodes. The ending felt
