Haikyuu!! Lev Genzan!

If you've ever wanted to know more about the Nekoma volleyball team, or want to watch a less volleyball-centric episode about the Karasuno team, these OVAs are for you. Be warned that watching the second OVA may spoil an episode or two of the second season for you.

Story - 8/10.
The first OVA is centred on the Nekoma team and their antics, in particular, Lev Haiba. It illustrates Lev and Kenma's (somewhat rocky) dynamic, and sets up a background for him as a character. For those of you who were unclear as to how Lev joined Nekoma's team, this episode will clear that up. I'd give ... this OVA 9/10 by itself, however, I was less satisfied by the second OVA. One might consider the second OVA episode to be a retelling of one of the second season's early episodes. The plot covered everything from Kageyama and Hinata studying for exams to their arrival at the Fukurodani group training camp. If you've already seen these episodes of the second season, this is still worth a watch because it gives more depth to Saeko's descision to drive the two first-years to the camp (and Tanaka's attempts to convince her). As well, there's a funny scene involving the principal's wig...
Overall, I'd say the second OVA would be worth about 7/10.

Art - 7/10.
The OVA's art was slightly inferior to the anime's, however it still looks fine and was animated well. As long as you aren't expecting anything special, the art will be satisfactory.

Sound - 7/10.
There's not much to say about the sound other than that it was about average for Haikyuu!, nice but nothing special.

Character - 9/10.
Haikyuu's characters have always been one of its strongest points, and the OVAs, particularly the first one, give a lot of depth to previously unexplored characters. (Learning more about Kenma, Kuroo, Lev, and Yaku, among others, was the high point of my experience.)

Enjoyment - 8/10.
I love Haikyuu in general, so as I wait for the third season to be released, this was a fun watch.

Overall - 7.5/10
As far as OVAs go, this one was pretty good. I'd recommend it to any fan of Haikyuu!!.

This OVA was pure class. I love EVERYTHING about it, especially the ending when Ukai yells at all of them to go home. In the space of twenty-something minutes, we get character development between Kenma and Lev, although that's to be expected of Haikyuu. A class OVA from a class anime.

It was hilarious too. All the scenes with Karasuno were just hilarious and Lev's such a lovely character. It's impossible NOT to smile when he's on screen, shouting ... about how he wants to be the ace. The characters are all just as perfect as usual, the animation's on point as always and as always, there's a lot of comedy. The great thing about this OVA (and Haikyuu in general) is that the comedy isn't forced. It's so natural that you can't help but replay scenes so you can just keep laughing at them. (The scene where they're playing the game on Tanaka's little techy gizmo is pretty amusing. I'll admit, I watched that scene like three times in a row.)

Overall, I give this a 10.

Haikyuu! Season 1 OVA Review

There are two OVA's in this season. The first one is where a new character has been introduced. In this series, there's only two paths that they can choose from. It is to improve all members of the team or to add new member who have the foundation need and can add to the level of the team itself. And this OVA shows that they pick the first one. This character just need polishment and practice to improve. In the future, how he play will be a sight to see. The second OVA is more on a ... fun part. Volleyball is just an extra curricular activity. The main part is still studying and what mostly pains every characters in a story. It show how they struggle to pass all of the exams just to practice and focus more on volleyball. It's really just a funny and laughable OVA.

nekoma high school recruited new player into their volleyball club. lev genzan a half-Japanese and half-Russian.though he self-proclaimed ace of nekoma high volleyball team.he used to be volleyball player in middle school.but he has long way to become ace after praticing hard acheiving hardships in training with nekoma co-operation levi learned a skill replica to hinata.meanwhile, kurosuna high hinata and his volleyball pals playing video game trying to achieve victory.end of the episode hinata breaks the video game.

this episode is hilarious.i loved it. the art style,character design,and this ova the continuation of season-1 haikyuu i enjoyed a lot. lev is so tall and he has ... long hands and long legs he will become one of the great players of nekoma high for sure.

Honestly a good little OVA. The Nekoma boys are a fun bunch and Kenma having to learn how to make sets with Lev. I like the video game connection for the two teams as the Karasuno boys play Monster Hunter as you would expect them too while Kenma has his own moment with Lev. I'm glad it wasn't some obvious tell for how Lev likes to get the ball, but something that's both intuitive and just needing time to get it down. I love that the show basically made fun of itself by having the same shocked expressions at the end of their game with ... Aoba Johsai but for a PSP that isn't theirs falling to the ground. A bunch of volleyball players not being able to stop something from hitting the concrete, it's perfect.

Well, I'm always gonna give Haikyuu!! a 10.

So, this OVA is mostly about Nekoma. Unlike many of the OVAs I've seen for other anime, this OVA actually hinges on character development. If you've only seen the first season of Haikyuu!! at this point, this episode will introduce you to Nekoma's new player Lev Haiba. It'll take you through his struggles in trying to become Nekoma's next ace and how hard it is to sync with Kenma.

Let's get the basics out of the way. The sound is always brilliant. The voice acting in this anime is nearly second-to-none. I really love the art style of this ... anime, as well, so obviously that's a plus.

Here's why I really love this episode, though: Nekoma is a fallen powerhouse, just like Karasuno. However, we don't really get to see a lot of Nekoma unless we're seeing them as a strong team. It was nice to see them struggle to stay cohesive in this episode. It really solidified them as Karasuno's rival as well. Lev as well as Kenma got some character development in this episode which was done really well. Kenma coming to a new conclusion about being a setter through Lev's inexperience was really nice.

Overall, I think this episode sets a nice tone for the Nekoma-Karasuno battle that will take place in the future at the training camp and beyond. We see Karasuno practicing and improving all the time, so I really loved seeing that from Nekoma as well.

This OVA wasn't bad I liked how they showed about Nekoma High side on how there were training and growing better

Story 7/10- The episode focused on the setter of Nekoma, Kenma and the new member, Lev. Lev does have the physical appearance of an athlete but isn't good at volleyball which annoys Kenma as he has to work with him but in the end, they do get along and they are able to work properly with each other. This wasn't a bad story that showed how other teams in the volleyball world need to face challenges to get better as well.

Art and Sound both ... 7/10- This had nothing really special about these as it just keeps the same art and sound in this OVA from the anime

Character 8/10- Like I said before it focuses on Kenma and Lev but it does have the other teams of Nekoma and some of Karasuno team and I like some of the characters from Nekoma high.

Enjoyment 7/10- A small OVA had a lot to show about the Nekoma High and was also a funny OVA.

Overall 7/10- The OVA was good, I was happy that I watched

It doesn't do anything terribly exceptional, but it's nice to see a little bit of development between its lead pair and get an interesting way to pursue it. As usual, this looks great, even if there's little in the way of sakuga. It's just training, but I have always enjoyed the training portions of this show, so it's an easy sell for me. I had a good enough time with it that I can say it was definitely worth watching, if only as an opportunity to get some insight into Nekoma and see how Lev truly became a part of their ranks, even if he ... still has a long way to go.
