Buddy Complex: Kanketsu-hen - Ano Sora ni Kaeru Mirai de

I am writing this review on behalf of both the prequel and this one, the finale. I haven't written anything nor made any reviews in a very long time, so please bear with me.

Buddy Complex is a mecha drama (with a hint of romance) series revolving on some ultra nerdy theories that will blow your mind. Well, that is if you are into that kinda thing, of course.

Have you watched Interstellar? Are you interested in quantum physics and its relation to the space-time continuum? If yes, then Buddy Complex is your series. It's a shining star in the vast void of space. I haven't heard ... of this up until three days ago. I watched Valvrave before actually watching Buddy Complex, so I was having a mecha anime streak, and Buddy Complex just stole my heart. It is by no means the greatest mecha anime of all time, but it just enough to give you chills and brain-f***s at the same time.

I really don't want to spoil the series for potential watchers, but as a fan of mecha, drama, and romance anime, this series is highly recommended. It might feel rushed, but I am certain that people will understand.

On a more serious note, this series needed more time. It obviously (for those who finished the series) needed more episodes for the projection and execution of the story—the unfolding of the story, per se. That way, it would actually feel "more" complete. In any case, that doesn't matter because it actually has a conclusion.

The story is not the best, but it has the potential to make you wet. Let's leave it at that to avoid spoilers.

The art is spectacular, and I am in love with the character designs! My favorite character is Hina, by the way. (for obvious reasons - lol)

Sound? It has your normal mecha anime sounds and music. Personally, it's so-so. But if we are going to talk about the voice actors and actresses? Well, I am a super fan of Hayami Saori, so I'm in love with Hina.

The characters can get very, very annoying at times, but it is all within normal expectations from a mecha drama.

If you are having a hard time finding a good mecha anime, and if you are a fan of Sunrise, then by all means, please watch Buddy Complex.

This series blew my mind, of course. I'm an ultra geek, after all.

My verdict: 8 out of 10

Follows directly after the events of Buddy Complex and kinda ties up all the unanswered questions but at the same time creates some new ones. Anytime you deal with time travel, you are gonna be left scratching your head to a certain extent.
The story is rushed quite a bit, the second episode, is basically a clip real going through all the time loops to piece everything together in a matter of minutes, something that should have been given an entire two parter by itself. A mistake that they made was introducing some new elements like Aoba being a senpai so a new pilot and new ... coupling system. You only have two episodes, finish what you started people.
And there is one thing that was present in the first series that struck me even more here is the body count. A LOT of people die and good guys bad guys, Aoba and his crew killing people, and in my opinion not enough attention is put on that. Aoba is a kid straight out of highschool, he should be struggling with the fact that he kills people on a consistent basis. There is a part in this were half the fleet and an entire base in obliterated and all they do is gasp. That was almost 1000 people that just died. But they ignore it, which bothers me, but i still like the show despite it.
I liked it just because i like Buddy Complex and i liked seeing the characters again, but overall it's pretty meh with a hint of disappointment. In the end it's a kind of special that you just gotta watch to get a bit of closure.

I watched the series when it was simulcast on Daisuki, but they didn't upload the OVA, it wouldn't be years later after a rewatch that I would see this on Funimation.

Story: 3, like the TV series, there are some ideas I like from this despite the rest of it being very generic but these unique or new ideas were so shoddily executed because of the limited number of episodes the staff were allowed. The poor pacing means some intriguing technologies introduced in this OVA sadly end up feeling like deus ex machina. If only they took the time to reveal them over the course of ... multiple episodes, so such things are developed in-story in a more realistic time frame. For example, Evgeni has a jamming signal that prevents coupling, so Elvira and Mayu come up with a way for Aoba to self-couple; by creating a fake persona in the Luxon NEXT. This is genius, and coming up with just the idea so quickly is no problem, but they program way too quickly to be believable.

Enjoyment: 6, The OVA does tie up some loose ends and should be watched immediately after the series. It concluded the TV series like it was supposed to but it did it to fast.
