Yukidoke

I entered "evangelion" into the search bar of the streaming site I used and for some reason it took me to the page for this (the site is known to have a weird search function). It was tagged as dementia, I clicked on it and seeing it was only 6 minutes long I decided to watch it.

I'm not entirely sure what the animator was trying to do with this, I'm not even sure the animator knew what they were trying to do with this. It's poorly drawn, crudely animated, sounds like it was recorded on a built-in laptop microphone, grotesque, off-putting, and doesn't even have ... any english subs. Despite this, it is possibly one of the most unique things I have ever seen and left enough of an impression on me that I decided to write this review, when I've never written a review before.

It was the most unnerving thing I have seen in quite a while, I was completely unprepared for it. If you are looking for a quick trip down WTF lane or just have nothing better to do, watch this short film

Yukidoke (The Thaw) is a conceptual work. In of itself, it shows the viewer the perspective of a boy who sees a dog's carcass, and from then on plunges into his own fears. Due to the nature of the film being short, it doesn't leave a lot to see, but a lot to interpret. The visuals are haunting, disturbing, memorable. The sound, minimal, but droning. Dread is the key word here; it's heavy, demented, and sickly.

The negatives come with the character. There isn't much here in regards to that; the short film is more about the atmosphere, the feeling it gives, rather than the characters ... themselves.

Overall, this is a good short, not really meant to be considered "anime", but still important in terms of Japanese animation.

see, most people get the wrong idea about this amazing show. You are to dense to see through to what is really happening. this is an ordinary boy and it is clearly portraying the imagination of a small child going through an emotional trauma such as the loss of a family pet. give this show a try, and see through it for yourself. Find the light in the show. and make it what you believe it to be !!! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I was really wrong about this show, but after watching it over 50 times I finally realized I was ... being deceived by these creators. 2004 was a great year just because of this show. I will always look back and reflect on what I saw and try ot turn it into a positive experience to keep with me for the res tof my life. thank you for reading my review

The thaw is a conceptual work by Kei Oyama, detailing a boy that, upon seeing a dogs entrails falling out of its corpse, began to develop a phobia of every single thing around him.

The work is just that. It has no special meaning beyond that, or at least none that is sewn into the work itself; you would have to add that meaning yourself. It is simply the story of a boy devolving into a paranoid mess. It does this well, the art aiding to the visceral concept and showing the perception of the world around the boy slowing deteriorating. The droning, noisy sound ... like a throbbing headache that only gets worse. It all aids to showing us an already disturbing world slowing getting worse and worse for him, until we close out with the boy seeing all things as disturbing and horrific.

There's not much beyond that. its an interesting 8 minute watch, but it does not leave you with any other thoughts then "neat, i guess". No questions are asked, none are answered. This is one of the milder WTF shocker videos with lesser horror elements(The "realistic" eyes was so creepy XD)

Even though it is really, really weird then it still seems to have a somewhat of a plot, a meaning.
A boy sees through the window (his) dead dog with guts out of the stomach, slowly it seems that he has gone into a state of shock and slowly his view upon the world becomes corrupted where everything starts to become grotesque even himself.
This is probably because he is faced with death ... and begins to see death in everything, his else believed immortality breaks and he sees how vulnerable he really is, just like all the other living things around him
BUT I might being interpreting this WAY too deep XD hahaha.

So far you should have duly noted that this "anime" have many ways be interpreted.

So yeah this is not for everyone XD

You ever just regret something. Doing something, making something, creating something. Well, I just did that. I just watched the most randomly-disturbing thing I have ever seen. It was so boring, and so quiet. There was no story, and overall it was the worst "anime" I have ever seen. (If you could even call it a anime..?) also, the art was REALLY disturbing, and disgusting. Most of the time you couldn't even make out what the heck you were even looking at. Only reason I would recommend this to someone is to make them question life. :)

(I also only found this cause ... of a Akidearest video I was watching.)

As someone who used to have phobias, I think this is a pretty accurate way to deliver it.
I had goosebumps all over again because all of this sounded and looked so similar to something I had a long time ago.
It scared me even.
The music has a creepy surreal ambient about it that makes the animation appear even more strange. It's just so easy to develop phobias, and that's exactly what happens here. You might develop a phobia after watching this, just for the sake of remembering weird hyperfixations on ''living'' things and how it used to gross or scare you. I think ... it's both grotesque and interesting to watch. I recommend this for anyone who likes alternative styles to todays animations / animes.

Story:
While it's mostly visually referring to what possible could be the plot, it's still not as clear as day how said corpse appeared there.

Art
This is personally my favorite about this short series. I like surreal art styles.

Sound
Probably adds a creepy ambient onto the story and therefore fits perfectly, although it's extremely muffed and you can barely understand the characters. I liked the organic sound effects but it would've been more helpful to underline the dinner scene more with those previous organic sounds.

Characters
this story isn't so focused on the characters and more focused on the development of phobias. I just found it interesting that one character had obesity while the other didn't.

Enjoyment.
Personally, I found it terrifying at one point. I wouldn't call it enjoyment, moreso curious to see how it ends.

Overall I think this is a piece of art and a pretty organic way to deliver phobias of any kind. defiantly going to show my psychology class.

Japanese Raw

plot
Introduction was a bit interesting a few questions were raised. Such as who did the deed? Was it natural or unnatural? Did the main character have any connection to its fate? Did the ___ belong to the main character or a stray? To some extent a good mystery.

As the film progressed the idea of a mystery died out as the film started to grow increasingly disturbing. Congratulations for a horror it did make me ill. Even though i couldn't quite capture what the main character was saying the artwork did a fine job of elaborating his expressions. Not so well in announcing ... the story though.

Ending was not good. It could have been increasingly better. My understanding of the story that it went with the evil of the world is now visible. And all previewed innocence is now lost. But why is it if the main character was so disturbed by this he was presenting himself in a horrific fashion? Maybe i am mistaking his appearance in contusion with his desire to be a kid but he didn't really show that he wanted to escape his surroundings more like the need to adapt.

Art
Black and white was a good choice for this movie to some extent. For one it showed and reflected the gloom aspect. On the other side by going with lack of color they are missing out on a opportunity as far as the horror complex is concerned with a proper realism of the blood. By not being clear with the blood can also lead the reader to believe some misguided thought the blood could be something else instead.

Overall if the intent of the anime was meant to disturb an okay job. Although, if the intent was meant to teach one a lesson about life it wasn't done to a satisfactory level.
