Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu

All of a sudden, they arrived: parasitic aliens that descended upon Earth and quickly infiltrated humanity by burrowing into the brains of vulnerable targets. These insatiable beings acquire full control of their host and are able to morph into a variety of forms in order to feed on unsuspecting prey.

Sixteen-year-old high school student Shinichi Izumi falls victim to one of these parasites, but it fails to take over his brain, ending up in his right hand instead. Unable to relocate, the parasite, now named Migi, has no choice but to rely on Shinichi in order to stay alive. Thus, the pair is forced into an uneasy coexistence and must defend themselves from hostile parasites that hope to eradicate this new threat to their species.

Entertaining with a sense of depth. Also with a year in which it was made it held up in relevance.

I would say that the beginning 10 episodes definitely held me in a clutch. I was thoroughly entertained and curious about what it was going to happen.

But in all honesty, any depth at which this anime aimed at, went over my head as I took these episode as a break between my study sessions in animedoro sort of a thing. I did not want to think but relax my mind with it and at some point I believe it required higher engagement from my side.

There seems ... to be some depth regarding our lives as humans within a larger ecosystem; that we are just a part of it and not necessarily the peak of creation. It also raises interesting points about co-existing with creations that assume the role of predators to us, and how we both grow from these attempts at co-existence.

I think it warrants a watch for sure for any new viewer but also a rewatch from me.

Mixed Feelings

There are lots of questions that are yet to be answered. For example: Why did the parasites come and from where? Why the last serial killer was able to comprehend monsters and humans just within a glance? and why did he want to kill Shinchi or what was his motive?
These questions were UNANSWERED.
Another aspect I found unnecessary was the female lead. It felt like she was included just for the sake of having a female character, without any significant contribution to the plot. Her role didn’t feel essential to the story’s progression. The same goes with Shinchi's dad. He was a very small part ... but still, at the end of the anime, I felt he needed some spotlight.

Despite these points, I would still recommend this series to others because of its gripping cliffhangers and the intense suspense that kept me on edge after every episode. I especially loved Tamura Reiko’s character—her compelling development and the plot surrounding her was brilliantly crafted. Her growth throughout the story was one of the highlights for me and obviously the parasite "Migi" is also a noticeable creature. I loved how the feelings in her voice didn't change even though she was a bit attached with Shinchi. The most peak point for me was when Shinchi was gradually losing the humanity in himself, almost becoming a cold and steel heart guy.

TLDR: overrated and underwhelming anime. It's not terrible per se, it's just extremely uninteresting.

Sadly this anime is very overrated, to a point I don't get why people were hyped at all.
The best description for me is "underwhelming". Nothing is actually interesting past the first 2 episodes. Most fights in the second half involve characters you just met and have not attachment to, whatsoever.

The most tensed episode is the last one... And it's just extra, unnecessary drama that brings nothing new to the story.

The rest is either predictable, unnecessary or underwhelming. When a major death happens, the animation and direction makes it look like a slice ... of life anime.
The fights themselves are the best part, but are still unoriginal.
