"Which way does the wind blow? To tomorrow!"

Shingeki no Bahamut is a pre-apocalyptic show about fate, destiny and what it means to change your fate, thrown into a cast of very unique characters and a power struggle between angels, humans and demons. The show is very promising from the beginning, builds up a lot of excitement in the middle, but ultimately ends in a rather anti-climactic fashion with insufficient resolution.

I made a video: you can find it at my YouTube channel "BasementOtaku"

Video Script:

Rage of Bahamut: Genesis (6/10): To learn about my rating system check the description below. Now it is time to ooze into this spoilery review.

Rage of Bahamut Genesis is fun, and for an anime adaptation of a videogame it is pretty darn special. There are moments where the animation is truly mind blowing, the first episode being a fantastic over the top introduction to the style and the characters. Where Bahamut struggles is a feeling of consistency, the characters start out doing odd jobs going after bounties, then they are having ...

Shingeki no Bamut: Genesis is an inclusive anime from get the beginning or so it seemed. At the start I was expecting nothing more the a bland, compressed, with nothing new to offer. I’m glad to say I was proven but the anime upbringing and charms. Having no adaption manga, it would be though to be an original anime but in fact it takes after game for its source. However, you’ll be in for a pleasant surprise.

After an ongoing war between angels and demons our takes us few hundred/thousands of years into the future. Meet on of our three main protagonist Leone Favaro a ...

Ah, Shingeki no Bahamut, a show which I nearly dropped halfway through. However, boy am I glad that I didn't drop it.

Story - 6

The story is "fair". It started off as a pretty average story, everything was predictable and even boring to an extent, however the ending did surprise me quite a lot. Though there were some unexplained things there. Anyhow, there isn't much character development nor are there many deep themes which delve into the depth of mankind and nature, however, I can see how some people may enjoy this show. Let's just say that I am NOT one of those people.

This show follows two bounty hunters as they help a mysterious girl find her mother. It immediately becomes clear if you are an anime watcher that this premise sounds suspiciously like Samurai Champloo, but trust me, it's not. Yes, the two characters play the clown and straight man characters well, but that's where it ends. The two main leads were decent characters, but I finished the show without really caring about their stories or their fate. I liked them enough, but there was no emotional attachment. That said, the villain here is pretty smart, but while I liked his plot, his personality was less engaging. ...

The anime, much like its original video game, hasn't aged well and reflects the typical style of 2010s anime. Many discussions on forums show that people often view the series nostalgically, praising its animation and story. However, both aspects are actually quite mediocre. The animation, while acceptable, shows MAPPA's early work with several instances of poor CGI, awkward frames, and subpar drawings, mixed with some solid animation moments. Overall, it's a mixed bag.

The story feels like a hodgepodge of archangels, demons, and the tale of Jeanne d'Arc, seemingly cobbled together from a cursory read of their respective lore. The characters, such as the angels and ...

If Genesis has a strong suit, it is the ambition behind it. A group of interesting characters set into a genuinely engrossing world, caught between the interests of multiple complex factions in a world-ending stakes game. Yes, not the most original of concepts, yet the mix of the chosen character archetypes and the quasi-medieval setting with heavy focus on heaven/hell mythology makes for a very solid base. Unfortunately, while one can see glimpses of this grand vision in Genesis, the final product strays far from it.

The ambition, which could have elevated this anime to top ranks, instead suffocates it. Too much happens in too little ...
