New Interest Stack

Interest Stacks

A stack dedicated to a certain kind of tragic, elegic anime that makes you mourn for a time you didn't exist or a place you've never been to.

Vibes. Absolute vibes.

I am attempting to curate the definitive catalog of THE most 𝓐𝓔𝓢𝓣𝓗𝓔𝓣𝓘𝓒 anime, found exclusively between the 80s and 90s!

Many millennials, Gen Z, or younger experience a 'longing' (often known as "anemoia") for the pre-internet world, when VHS tapes enveloped film in a comforting saturation, when stereos emitted synthpop, and when the warm sun caused the rippling seas to glisten just that much more.

This Interest Stack is curated to support members in finding entries which share highly specific or niche interests: that is: 80s-90s anime that boast a retro "aesthetic" prowess: an art style or color palette that evoke "vibes", "atmosphere", "ambiance", or "nostalgia".

These anime are brimming with screenshotable frames and GIF-worthy animations to suit any YouTube lo-fi mixtape, playlist of beats to study to, Pinterest feeds, or cater to anyone's longing for an ethereal bygone era.

“Looking at still images from the blu-ray of this anime makes me want to cry. People throw around the word ‘aesthetic’—they throw is around a LOT—especially when talking about old anime on VHS; but, I have never seen Shounan Bakusouzoku talked about.” — Kenny Lauderdale

Suggestions welcomed!

1990s, 1990's, 90s, 90's

1980s, 1980's, 80s, 80's

P.S. I really tried not to use the word "vaporwave". But yeah. That's pretty much what this stack is.

Some times a person have to stop sharing a rare/old anime with very few seeds and ask himself: what about the next person?

This is far from complete. I will be lazy updating this list ngl. Open comments and DMs.

Not listed on MAL/couldn't find:

Animes with the cozy charm of cottagecore. Serene settings, whimsical adventures, quaint villages and a focus on the beauty of nature. Animes to watch with a warm cup of tee and a cozy blanket to relax from a stressful day.
open to suggestions!

For most series the score is falling over time, however some special series it is rising over time.

This is the list of these series that used to be scored lower on MAL but have been rising in score over the years, excludes currently airing series and series where the score rise happened when the series was airing or within 5 years of its airing.

Probably wont be updated anymore there was a change today (24th May 2024) in how the scores are calculated (?) and because of that everything in this list went back to lower scores again, so I'll probably leave this as it is currently to preserve the history before they edited the system (?)

A list of anime that are adaptions of children's books (all around the globe). Recommended for reasons of nostalgia and as Iyashikei-anime before Iyashikei was a thing.

A list consisting of anime that convey a sense or feeling of what childhood is or could be. It's supposed to be somewhat of a childhood/nostalgia archive in it's entirety.

Note: The list is about childhood, not anime we watched when we were children. It does not necessarily contain your typical Miyazaki/Ghibli movies nor is it child-friendly by every means.

These are all series I have used as part of my personal bedtime routine. Some are contemplative, some are funny, some feel like a bedtime story, but they're all relaxed and good for winding down. Some entries have shorter episodes as well for nights where the routine is a little rushed.

I'll only be including 1 entry per franchise to keep the list neat, but know that all related entries are also fitting. Often there are related picture dramas and such that are good for finding less than full-length episodes.

I hope this helps any of you who also have a rough time getting to sleep. Sweet dreams, everyone!

I'll continue to update as I add more to my nightly routines.
