Both shows contain a somewhat "dark" atmosphere with a lighter tone appearing now and then. Each has a "secret" organization that rules the city. Each also has a sort of "special power gene" that only certain humans can obtain. This gives the characters in both series new skills and abilities. With interesting plot lines, both of these will keep you glued to your chair.
In both shows, certain individuals have unique super-powers thanks to a recent phenomenon. In Darker than Black, you have factions of these people up against one another. In Speed Grapher, it's one man against everyone else, a more exciting setup IMO. Also, the characters in Speed Grapher are less opaque than those in Darker than Black where the mystery usually takes precedence over the story, leaving so much unexplained that the show gets tedious.
Similar theme, atmosphere, metaphysics governing supernatural powers, story progression and pacing. Both shows take place primarily in a "dark" city controlled by the underground where the main character fights against an omnipresent shadow-organization, filled with various goons who've derived powers based on their character flaws, in order to protect the freedom of a sheltered girl. The theme of science causing god complex is central to either story. The music used in both also strikes me as similar in style, composition and atmospheric use within the anime.
Both series have a similar feeling as they have rather dark atmospheres, characters with special powers, and a loli sidekick (who is someone that the MCs need to protect). There are some other various similarities that both series have which really make one anime feel like the other.
Both anime contain a dark atmosphere and have a secret organization to unmask. A few people have a "strange virus" that can be activated and can give to them strange powers. Both do no have a foregone conclusion.
Sexual, twisting, dark, supernatural animes abound. After watching Mnemosyne, I couldn't help but see the similarities in the two series, from theme to art and character design to pacing, I truly saw these animes as very similar cousins to each other.
If you liked Mnemosyne for more than just the Yuri, Speed Grapher is going to be right up your alley with similar plot progression; a better, more developed, more dynamic story; and Characters that seem much more real.
If you liked Speed Grapher's mystery, Mnemosyne has a more mysterious plot with an interesting use of motifs over the span of quite a few years (which forces you to pay more attention, or you will get very lost). Also, if you liked the adult themes, Mnemosyne has those in spades.... lots and lots of spades.....

Both series use grotesquely disturbing visual imagery involving many themes that delve into erotica and moral virtues paired with their neo-noir settings.
if you like one of them you're going to like the other as well.
Black Lagoon and Speed Grapher are both similar shows. Both are action packed and suspensefull. Both have blood, gore, violence, death, and sexual things going on(more sexual things in "Speed Grapher") . Both can get really dark, and still punch in a great joke here and there, but not get silly. Both shows have gun fights (more in Black lagoon) that may ask you to suspend your belief a little bit (but this is good from time to time). Both also involve "different" types of fight scenes we are not used to seeing in anime. For example in "Speed Grapher" we get a guy who can make a camera kill people vs. a guy who's skin is like rubber. In "Black Lagoon" we get a speed boat vs. a helicopter!! Both shows seem "realistic" and put Hollywood to shame. As Revy from " Black Lagoon" says "Don't be stupid, this is way more entertaining than Hollywood's ever gonna be." or as Ginza from "Speed Grapher" says "Don't make me self defense you too!"  read more
Mature, kickass, adult-only anime that have many elements in common.
Both are filled with action, violence, fights, blood, mafia, corruption, money, cigarettes, and the same "nobody is the good guy" feeling.
A sexy, badass gunslinger woman and crazy characters are also included.
Speed Grapher also involves sex and super powers, while Black Lagoon has hilarious black comedy in it.
These series are both the same kind of anime in many ways. There are gunfights, good action, and blood is flying around. Also there are some sexy girls in these anime too who fights with guns. Speed Grapher has also supernatural powers included.
Both series are about humans who have supernatural powers. In Darker than Black there are Contractors who have these powers and in Speed Grapher there are Euphorias who have these superhuman powers. The stories of these anime are good and related to the modern world. There are also girls who the main guy wants to help and protect.
Supernatural and action themes that both these series share. There are also small inklings of romance hinted between the main characters. The dark tone of the series is also present as the story moves for both these anime that give the viewers thriller-like settings.
Both series have a similar feel as they have:
- A rather dark atmosphere.
- Characters with special powers.
- A loli sidekick (someone that they need to protect)
There are some other various similarities that both series really make it feel like the other.
Both anime is made by Gonzo. Aired the same year, and in the same season.
In the Basilisk and Speed Grapher there is a unique action scenes and mild nudity.
I recommend adult fans. These animes are seinen. There are no bishi, but there are very beautiful women. Great characters and a great story.
Tbh, I find both of these two series a bit similar.
Speed Grapher and Psycho-Pass both features a dark world where there are criminals and those with supernatural abilities. Both series has a dark atmosphere that can be reflected on the settings of their respective series.
Both the main characters in the series seems to be stoic while the main female protagonist has a more general personality.
Both series contains super power/supernatural themes that also involves elements of detective fiction. In a dark world, there is crime and violence. Both these series has that.
Both series has supernatural elements where the main protagonist meets a strange girl in the pilot episode who holds secrets.
Both series' main protagonist and the girl bonds and become close.
The story in both series are both mysterious and contain a darker theme than one meets the eye mixed in with drama, action, and a little comedy.
Money plays a huge role in both animes. How it affects society, how it effects people, and what what could happen if it all went away. C is pretty much exclusively about money, but in Speed Grapher it is only prevalent in the villain. However both have a lot to say about money and society.
Dark and gritty with a fair amount of violence, as well as genetic mutations/evolutions in humans/robots that may give them monstrous qualities. Speed Grapher is more about corruption and vice, while Gantz is about violence begetting violence, but a fan of one series is likely to enjoy the other.
These two dark violent anime deal with themes of the darker sides of human nature. They both have characters using superhuman powers to kill other powerful beings. They are similar in their graphic nature as they are both filled with violence, blood, gore and nudity.
Both series are at their hearts "shoot em up" gun shows, with lots of action. However both have some sci-fi elements (more in Burst Angel, which has mechas), and a few other strong elements as well. For example Burst Angel has a very "western" feel to it, while Speed Grapher has a more "supernatural" and "crime- drama" feeling to it. Speed Grapher is more sexual and a little more mature then Burst Angel (not that Burst Angel is for kids....it's not really). Both series are fun shows with great "Girls with Guns" action, and strong female characters. Speed Grapher is darker then Burst Angel. Both series are lots of fun, very gritty, and the animation and character desings are very similur. Both series are dubbed by FUNimation. Most importantly both Speed Grapher and Burst Angel were animated/created by Studio Gonzo.
If you like one, you will probally like the other!  read more
Action-filled Gonzo anime with sci-fi and ecchi elements.
Ginza could be Jo's twin sister, as they're both badass women with short grey hair, a sexy outfit, and two guns.
Speed Grapher is easily more intense, mature, and better than Burst Angel, since the latter is mostly a comical mecha show.
Revenge, greed, vice, corruption. Both series feature the darkness; the evil in human hearts. Worlds depicting a dichotomy between the filthy rich and the suffering poverty, both Gankutsuou and Speed Grapher are vastly different in settings and plot development, but distinctively similar in their themes.
Based on the Count of Monte Cristo set in a futuristic setting, Gankutsuou is a story of vengeance. To avoid spoilers, the antagonist had a shocking past filled with desperation and betrayal, and Gankutsuou follows his attempts to destroy and defile his objects of vengeance.
Whereas for Speed Grapher, a near future world rather similar to GiTS and DtB, where money is the bringer of all and rich people rule. Amidst the living hell of corruption, Speed Grapher is a story of freedom, to obtain true happiness; and a story of revenge, to bring an end to his tragic past.
While dissimilar in characters, environment, and even plots, both series share a subtle motif which emphasises on their similarities. If one were to enjoy the former, he would definitely enjoy the latter. read more
Maybe it's just me, but "notebook that kills people" is kind of like "camera that explodes shit".
There's a slight difference: The theme of Death Note is justice/morality, while Speed Grapher is about corruption and vice.
These both deal with a troubled hero who want to protect specific people not matter what the cost. Both animes are gritty and dark with no hope that people with power could ever be good. If you like the fact that a hero is going up against impossible odds to settle the score than either Gungrave or Speed Grapher is the anime for you.
Both series challenge moral ethics found in society often claiming that money is worth everything. Kaiji is strictly about psychological gambling found in human greed while Speed Grapher dives into super powers revolving around human lusts. These shows dig into ambiguous concepts of good & evil where it is explored through Kaiji's struggle for freedom. The villain of Speed Grapher, Chouji Suitengu, holds a tragic secret that may result in justifying his crimes upon human beings.
In both series, there is a superpower theme related to individuals with supernatural abilities.
The setting of both series also have a similar feeling in a city where there is crime, hungry power individuals, and organizations with dark ambitions.
The main female characters from the series also has their own powers which they use to help with various tasks.
Both series contains action, drama, and a mysterious like background as well.
Both series revolves around supernatural beings able to perform supernatural feats beyond human understanding.
Additionally, there is a dark background in the stories and mystery written all over it.
Both series contain drama and action delivered well.
this series gave me the same sort of feeling as speed grapher.. it's hard to define.. but yea, it's very dark and deals with the underbelly of society [though ergo proxy is quite a bit more futuristic].. upheaval, good versus evil, that sort of thing.. the animation is also on par with this one.. definitely check it out.
These two dark violent anime deal with themes of the darker sides of human nature. Both of these two anime also have a mysterious girl with special powers and memory problems that escape from an secret organization that wants to use their power for evil. Not to mention these two anime are filled with violence, blood, gore and disturbing imagery.
Both of these series involve a a male protagonist detective who encounters a source that gives them supernatural powers. They're both accompanied and driven by their female partner to solve crimes which revolve around worldly sins greed, lust, etc along with other heavy concepts. I enjoyed both of these series and feel they share several traits. If you like slightly dark detective stories that involve supernatural powers you'll enjoy both of these series.
The storyline and characters are unique and interesting for both series. They also contain exceptional romance where the lovers are on the run from powerful forces in the society, and they have to struggle with their choices along the way.
Dark and gritty with a fair amount of violence, as well as genetic mutations/evolutions in humans that may give them monstrous qualities. Speed Grapher is more about corruption and vice, while Zetman is about violence begetting violence, but a fan of one series is likely to enjoy the other.
The similarities are pretty strong. The settings are very similar, a near future with lots of slums and crime. The serious feel of everything was very similar as well. Both series have people with special abilities and a young girl caught up at the center of it all. Conspiracies and corruption abound in both as well. I personally found Speed Grapher to be the much better of the two, with its much stronger emphasis on corruption and the carnal desires of mankind. If you liked Witch Hunter Robin I highly recommend Speed Grapher. However, if you liked Speed Grapher I don't feel that Witch Hunter Robin is on the same level. Overall I enjoyed both series, but again I'd recommend Speed Grapher as the top choice of the two. read more
Gritty, mature, fantastic anime with overall the same style.
The characters and their relationships are similar to the extreme: the male protagonist (Spike/Saiga) is an apathetic and unemotional man who has a special eye and needs to closely touch death in order to feel alive, and who is not interested in the sexy, dangerous gunslinger girl who has a crush on him (Faye/Ginza), but only cares about the woman he loves (Julia/Kagura). The main villains (Vicious/Suitengu) are also alike, as they're both cruel, white-haired men who want the protagonist's woman for themselves, and who have a carillon in their background story.
Even though Speed Grapher is not as raffinate as Cowboy Bebop, both anime have a fair amount of action, violence, sci-fi, sex, and drama. read more
These anime are so similar it's scary.
Firstly, both are about laboratory experiments and genetically altered/manipulated people (Diclonius/Euphoria) who have mortal super powers.
They both also have action, drama, mystery, and a rather unique storyline with plenty of twists.
But, above all, both involve a tragic relationship between a brother and his little sister, and carillons have a crucial, important meaning in both anime.
Both anime are indeed extreme, as they have have lots of violence, gore, and nudity, several gross, disturbing scenes, and are considered trashy and vulgar by many people, which is why they're not for everyone; if you can pass over these things, both anime, despite their flaws, are great, enthrilling, and unforgettable. read more
Speed Grapher is a pretty dark anime, there's a lot of hate and misuses of power. Innocent Venus isn't quite as dark but still has it's fair share of issues.
They both have the typical young mystical girl, bad organization after them, and a few lovable characters along the way.
Both stories are pretty interesting and if you like one give the other a chance.
These series are both same kind of animes in many ways. There are gunfights, good action and blood is flying around. Also there are some sexy girls in these animes too who fights with guns. Speed Grapher has also supernatural powers included.
If you like the main protagonist and the kind of romantic relationship in one, I'm sure you'll like them in the other because Sankarea and speed grapher have very similar background setting for the main girl.
