Gang terror and chaos reign in the land of Chungwon. The Camelia Blossoms are the most powerful of the warring gangs and they use this time of unrest to wrestle control of the country from the ailing peoples government, while also producing counterfeit gold coins to cripple the struggling economy. The only hope of freedom lies with the enigmatic Red Hawk.
Red hawk or Bulg-eunmae in Korean was released in 1995 in south Korea and released in the united states in 2002 by manga entertainment, Red hawk is based of a manhwa of the same name and tells the story of danlyong or red hawk, a vigilante beloved by the people combating the camellia blossoms "a gang of warlords" or any other wrongdoer who he comes into contact with, meanwhile searching for his brother muklyong.
Honestly i rather enjoyed red hawk, the fight scene ( though many of them looked a lot like street fighter or dragon ball z ) were fun to watch. the animation wasn't much to write home about and was fairly average. the pacing was pretty good given its 90 minute run time, the characters for the most part were fairly likable as well.
the voice acting is a bit tricky because i have only seen red hawk in English dub, the region 1 release had no Korean audio, and i was unable to find it in Korean audio online though finding the dub was fairly easy, the English voice acting isn't the worst I've heard, red hawk is voiced by Steve Blum, and one of the other main characters is voiced by Wendy lee, both do ok, but have both been in much better shows. the rest of the cast range from sub par to laughable.
Verdict: the animation was pretty good especially during fight scenes, the main characters were fairly likable and story was fairly good, on the other hand there are some problems, the obvious lifted shots from street fighter, the not particularly good voice acting, and the film only being available in dub.
it was a decent film if you like old martial arts films there's a good chance you'll like it, it is currently out of print but can easily be found online, so that being said i think its worth a watch. read more
This is actually a Korean anime. They shouldn't do anime. Alot like how Americans shouldn't make animes. Not all are bad, Spawn is pretty good and Dead Space is good too. They just aren't Japanime. They are missing something or Japanime just has something they don't. Hard to put into words, but anyway, Red Hawk is not good. Action is weak like Legend of Lemnear. Story is ? I don't know cause I shut it off after 10 minutes. Action is bad and generic. Not very interesting at all. Blood Reign : Curse of the Yoma is the closest anime to this one. Blood Reign was a 5 for me and this is a 3, so if you liked Blood Reign, you may want to check this one out. If you don't like Blood Reign, do not waste time with this one.read more
*warning review was meant to be slightly confusing/explained why at the end.
Given by me a 7
seen via english dub
If i were to compare this movie to something i would say it is like naruto.
Before i give my view some of you viewers were put off by a reviewer mr or ms animegorey. I don't know the fella but if you are going to comment on something watch the entire thing not the first 10 minutes. That is no different then grading an essay on the sole basis of the introduction. It just won't work. Anyways i have done my little rant onto my review.
This anime is not at all what it appears to be in the first 10 minutes. Sorry animegorey but you done made an ass out of yourself since you misjudged what you could have found to be a good film. You think it is a clown who relies on a girl to save him yet that is not true exactly. You think the movie is a comedy yet that is not exactly true. One might also might think they know the identity yet they don't at least not yet. I could go with the intentional mislead but let us move on.
Aside from the unexpected feature i admired the portrayal/setup of the movie. You are probably looking at me confused when you read this but hear me out. Anyone can go on voyage and film start to finish. Not this creator oh no not him. He or she is to smart for that boring idea. His idea to me lessens on the 'boring' equation of the matter. To me a boring matter is a scene where there is no fight/bullets rushing by in the air or something to that effect. So, rather than subtracting it the director/creator breaks it into smaller pieces a little in the intro to give taste and the rest spread through the journey. The additional pro to this is that it causes the viewer to wonder what could have happened. A small to be revealed trailer/mystery if you will.
Oh and don't get me started on the ending. I loved it. Very similar to me ending the review to what was actually was said in the anime. Job is done i guess i will follow in the main character's direction. Oh no you don't.
Sorry it is a bit confusing but not only would have to see to understand but it everything was cut and dry would you double take and check it out?read more
