In the distant future, monsters and inhumans roam the land, and the ruling Evil King seeks a human woman to bear him powerful, force-adept heirs. Non offers herself to the Evil King in order to save her village from Ape Clan raiders, and gives him twin sons, Loof and Jin. She and her sons are exiled by the ungrateful villagers, however, and Non's companion Nue (a Demon Clan member changed into a wolf for disobedience) takes Loof to be raised by his father, the Evil King. The Evil One's Queen Parome despises humans, however, and her malevolence towards Loof deepens...
Oh, Genma Wars. This has to be one of the absolute worst anime to every be released to the public. It gets a resounding 1 in almost everything. The story in nonsensical, the animation is so poor that people teleport instead of walking. It's just bad, bad, bad.
But then, why does it get a 10 for enjoyment? Well, my friends, flip on the dub track to find out. Suddenly, a show that was merely bad now descends so far into the depths that it somehow comes back around in another category. To put it simply, it's so bad that it's funny. And it's not that the actors are bad. In fact, two of the main roles are played by Richard Epcar (Batou from GITS) and Wendee Lee (Faye Valentine). No, it is the script that is so bad. Such choice lines include "When I get back, I'm going to beat that baby out of you." and "This flower is your mother." Truly, Genma Wars is a classic that all should enjoy. And when you're done watching it, you can torture your friends with it. It's the gift that keeps on giving... kinda like herpes.read more
Behold! This anime should be watched by all who think it's cool to hate on the popular shounen series!
Genma Taisen: Shinwa Zenya no Shou is what it means to be the shittiest shounen series.
There are too many people that only watch the best of the popular anime and then rank down many others as being "horrible" or "dreadful" for not being like those masterpieces. After getting tired of seeing that ignorance, I went hunting for the lowest rated shounen TV series on MAL.
This is it.
Words... cannot describe how bad this series is. If you were high on hallucinogens, I don't think it would be as trippy as this series. A girl sacrifices her virginity to evil Harambe in order to protect her village and the story starts from there. The sexual themes were so... random and unnecessary. It was definitely a failed effort to appeal to men (failed because I don't think anything in this series appeals to anyone, really). I think a majority of hentai series probably have better plots than this. Because of the blatantly sexual themes, I have no idea how this classifies as a pg-13 shounen series... Worst of all, I don't even know what it is that I was watching... Most of the time I was asking myself, "what the fuck is going on...?"This series is basically like taking a shit in 2002, letting it rot in a storage container until 2016, opening it up in 2016, and then smelling it.
It's also not bad just because it's an old anime. You can tell if you look at other old anime made the same year or earlier like DBZ, .Hack//Sign, Ghost in the Shell, Mononoke Hime, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and many others
Luckily, my "force" was strong enough to endure this for the sole purpose of writing this review. Watch this series all the way through and you will truly learn to appreciate the beauty of all of the other popular shounen series that people ranked lowly.
If a perverted 4th grader wrote a shounen story, it would probably come out looking something like this. This is probably the most boring anime I've ever watched. It wasn't even so bad that it was entertaining, like Mars of Destruction for example. It really tried its best to be a shounen series, but it was too random to be much of anything really. I don't even know what to take away from this series... Save the world? Train your force? Have sex? Treat people extremely nice no matter how cruel they are to you? There's no place like home? I just don't know what this series was trying to portray...
Think of the art of the original Scooby Doo... It was basically like that except more anime styled.
Think of the music and sound quality of old films... It was basically mostly electronic and sounded like that except with mostly crappy, non catchy music.
The characters were so random, simplified, and incoherent that I'd rather see the popular tropes.
I just didn't "Enjoy" this at all... "Ment" is all I have left after finishing this anime.
(Okay there should be a differentiation made between the original Japanese and the English dub. The English dub was so bad that it was good, so I was dying laughing the whole time. 10/10 enjoyment, but the Japanese version was pretty horrible and is the one I used for this review)
Despite its many flaws, it's not really the worst thing ever. It might have been dreadful, but you can appreciate its flaws as it helps you understand how great other many other series really are.
Would I recommend this to you?
Well, did you give a really popular shounen series with above a 7 score less than a 5? If so, then yes! You should probably watch this old rotting piece of shit, my friend.
If you did not give a popular shounen series less than a 5, then you probably shouldn't. I don't even know what this series was about.read more
Maybe I give this anime such 'high' ratings because I can see the potential in it. The story itself, while not original, isnt bad. Its planets of the apes with wizards. I think that maybe if this show laid off the rape/ sex and had better dialogue it could have been much better. The chatters are fair. They have the potential to be great, but the writing doesnt really allow them to develop in a normal way. Things are rushed and never explained. The art is the main thing that turned me away from this originally. The character designs are poor and the animation is just sad. I think if you can manage to look past all the bad things, there is a half decent show here. If youre looking for some time to kill and youve never seen it and have nothing else to watch then what the heck, give it a chance!read more
