Synopsis

What happens when two people love each other but just aren't meant to be together? Takaki Toono and Akari Shinohara are childhood friends, but circumstances beyond their control tear them apart. They promise to stay in contact, and although the progression of time widens the distance between them, the chain of memories remains ever-present.

Byousoku 5 Centimeter is a romantic drama that focuses on the mundane and harsh reality of long-distance relationships. Stuck in the past and unable to make any new memories, Takaki and Akari cling to the hope of seeing each other again. They live their everyday lives half-heartedly, both hurting themselves and the people around them.

Mixed Feelings
5 centimeters per second (2007) is Makoto Shinkai's second film. Idk... I liked it ig

Pros: Gourgeous, AMAZING visuals. Everything from the ocean to falling petals and the attention put into the makes every frame captivating and every shot truly wallpaper material. The soundtrack as well conveys deep emotions of longing, lonliness and loss. The ending theme One More Time, One More Chance is definitely on of the best ED's ever.

Cons: While the film's atmosphere is certainly captivating, the *meat* of the film itself is unfortunately deeply flawed. It has good themes and ideas it wants to talk about but executed them very badly. Plot and ...

This anime is not just bad, it's harmful. It's pretty much romanticising being stuck in the past. The theme itself could be good if the author wouldn't show it as a beautiful thing almost making the MC the martyr of love (?). Poor girlfriend of the guy. Imagine being treated like a spare because your boyfriend couldn't move on from his crush from PRIMARY SCHOOL. Just break up with him, let him be miserable alone, he clearly likes it. What more can I say. The animation and music like always in the Shinkai's works is top notch but I would recommend to skip Byousoku 5 ...
