Kotonoha no Niwa

The Animation Kobe (アニメーション神戸) was an event established by Kobe in 1996 to promote anime and other visual media. The Animation Kobe Awards (アニメーション神戸賞) were given annually until 2015 by Kobe and the Organizing Committee to creators and creations.

Animation films released in Japan from September of the previous year to August of the event year become candidates. The candidates are selected not only from Japan, but also from other countries. However, the committee sees more importance in a point of view promoting young creators of Japan.

The "Scotland Loves Anime" film festival takes place every October in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It was started in 2010 and includes the "Golden Partridge" jury award and audience-voted awards.

In 2015, the Japan Animator Expo also had its EU premiere. These have been omitted from the list below due to space.

Also in 2015, the live action Attack on Titan movies (Part 1 and Part 2) were also given their EU premiere at SLA.

I have compiled the animes that have achieved a certain quality with their story and animation and are loved by the majority, with my own short titles. If you don't have much time and are looking for an anime movie, you can check this list.

Everyone knows Studio Ghibli's amazing work, but what about the other studios?

Most of the Top Movies are related to an anime series, so it is not too easy to find something which can be watched without any previous knowledge.

I will list those standalone movies which I enjoyed besides the Ghibli shows.

Anime series or movies with a fair amount of realistic scenery of modern Japanese cities (starting from the '80s) like Tokyo or any other, with a remarkable romantic or nostalgic feeling, like those depicting cities centre, schools or distant suburbs with typical residential streets during particular moments of the year or of the day, like an autumn or cherry blossom scene, or even a beautiful sunset for example, with Japanese crows and black kites in the sky making singing their beautiful call, or a typical Japanese train passing along a road or a bridge, why not with the Fujiyama in the background. Anything providing a romantic and nostalgic feeling of Japanese cities is very welcome to this Interest Stack.

Anime that has the smoothest animation/art style that you shouldn't miss. Something with many frames per second as well as beautiful, vibrant colors, that you don't have a single moment where you'll feel bored.

The scent of the sea, the smell of chlorine from the pool, and the tears that roll down your cheeks. The sea is as abundant as the sand. Below are animes where the MC is associated with the theme of water, or entities that belong to the sea. Water can be raindrops, the sea, the pool, and tears. It is the foundation of water that leads them to love, find purpose, compete, live or just have fun

Anything with visually appealing art that makes you go stunned and will make you never want to look away from that scenery, and can be used as your background wallpaper.

Some romantic anime which may have an unexpected or emotional scene to it that may make you want to cry or feel empty inside. Keep in mind some of these entries only have a little romantic subtext. This list includes no side stories.

The romance as a genre, in it's typical sense, is a hit or miss for most of us, and this is understandable. Each of us had different outlook on life, our experience has shaped our personalities by particular ways, and the way we comprehend the fragile and gentle feelings of love within ourselves is something very personal.

But then again, some stories, despite not having entirely romantic focus, can portray relationships and can be felt deeply. Shows like these rarely does get the spotlight for this reasons, and are oftenly skipped by people who're usually interested in the romance aspect of things, which is one of the reasons this collection was made.

Some of these works have interesting variety of genres, themes and moods, but in each of them you can find a hint of, if not well explored, romance. As well as that, some romances that are breaking the mold of the usual adaptations are included, since they're rarely well explored within the fandom, and deserve our appreciation.
