Synopsis

After completing their work at Yorknew City, Leorio Paladiknight and Kurapika investigate the rumored sightings of a boy with scarlet red eyes, as they believe this person to be a member of the now non-existent Kurta Clan. Kurapika hopes to find another survivor of the clan besides himself, but instead ends up losing both his eyes after an attack from someone who seems to be his childhood friend.

Leorio tends to Kurapika's wounds, and then sends for both Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck to help retrieve Kurapika's eyeballs. However, their search brings them face-to-face with the infamous group of thieves known as Phantom Troupe—the same people who massacred the entire Kurta Clan five years ago for their scarlet eyes, which change color during moments of rage.

Hunter x Hunter Movie 1: Phantom Rouge follows the boys' quest to locate their friend's eyes and catch the thief, causing them to delve deep into Phantom Troupe's past. And in doing so, they encounter a mysterious girl who appears to be linked to it all…

Watching this made me miss HxH so much. As a HxH fan, I mainly watched this because I miss having HxH content to watch since I finished the manga and anime up to the latest update and realized I haven't been involved in HxH lately so decided to watch the movies. This movie brought back lots of memories of the Yorknew City arc.

Honestly, this show was focused more on Killua than anything so it might disappoint some people in a way because it wasn't focused on Kurapika the way you would think it would be but for me I don't mind since I love Killua. ...

Mixed Feelings
Listen this movie is like kind of trash and I really wish it wasn't.
I'll start with the good things. Getting more or Kurapika's backstory is great, I feel he really got fleshed out more. There's also some fantastic scenes with Leorio that really had me feeling the love they have for each other. Killua and Gon also had a few moments like this as well which was sweet.
But honestly it's not great. It feels so much like they wrote this movie way too fast just to try and make some more money. The only good this movie is for getting to see Kurapika ...

This movie makes absolutely no sense.

Firstly, I cannot tell when it happens. It apparently happens after the Phantom Troupe arc, since it references many things that happened during that arc. But the opening sequence on the train makes no sense in the context of the plot of the show. The Greed Island arc takes place immediately after the Yorknew City arc, in the same location. So why would Gon and Kilua be on a train?

Anyways, watching the show is a requirement before watching this movie, otherwise, it won't make any sense. I'm fine with anime movies that do this, but the movie really starts to ...
