Yakumo is, in essence, a more rushed and poorly written version of Ghost Hunt. The two leads and their relationship is the same in both, though in Ghost Hunt the heroine's thoughts are expressed internally frequently, which makes her have far more depth and spunk than the hollow shell of a character that is Haruka. And the episodic stories themselves are far more involving and, at times, creepy than the average predictably on show in the first few Yakumo episodes.

The way the cases are solved have a similar feeling to each other. Splendid use of music in both series. The narration/introduction of a plot/case also resembles each other in terms of style and pacing.

In the world there are things we can't see but are of great importance. Ghosts, curses, dreams, superstitions and many other unexplained but commonly known phenomena. At a general level people don't really believe in them, but sometimes they need to. So if, you are a part of those unbelievers who are in need to learn more about the other side of the world - the unseen and unknown side, you may be more than interested to do it while watching either Ghost Hunt, or xxxHolic. Both series provide much valuable and interesting information (personally, I leart alot just from watching!)

both leave a little something wanting at the end, have very good art, good story lines, neither are scary in any way, decent charecter growth, both have a slight romanance going on the side..all in all both animes worth the watch XD
report Recommended by MeiaRan
Both are from the same creator, and have a supernatural mysterious plot with some horror and drama. The characters are all great, and the main character is a anti social boy with a cold attitude but he really cares about his friends and tries to find the truth behind the events.
report Recommended by Orulyon
Main theme of the supernatural and other occult occurrences in both series but Ghost Hunt has a more eerie feel and less comedic situation than Ghost Stories. Ghost Stories focuses more on Japanese supernatural and folklore while Ghost Hunt on murders and some para-psychology ideas.

a little scary, arcs span multiple episodes, cases are really mysterious and interesting

Both anime are about peaple whose job is to exorcise evil spirits, break curses etc. They also have a similar main male lead who is full of himself and rather irritating to those around him.

In essence, both these series contain the elements of horror, mystery, and the thriller like feelings when you watch its progressing episodes. In other words, there are some cliffhangers that leaves the viewers wondering "what will happen next?" At any rate, Another and Ghost Hunt are similar in a variety of ways. Both series contains a school like setting where mystery is present. Additionally, the main protagonist is accompanied by a girl throughout the series with all the strange phenomenon going around. Both series although different in terms of story structure builds itself through suspense, horror, and mystery. Both series' characters are also teenagers and thus  read more

right off, i'd have to say that ghost hunt is the better of the two [even though majin hasn't finished airing yet].. but both are episodic series with mysteries being solved.. a young high school girl with no family follows around a mysterious sempai-mystery-solver.. um.. there isn't a whole lot as far as character development goes in either of the series.. majin has more bizarre [and shocking] humor while ghost hunt sticks to the paranormal shockers without the laughs.. both involve the supernatural-majin's main character is a demon with really strange mystery-solving methods.. while ghost hunt focuses on the religious or spiritual methods of  read more

Both have mysterious atmosphere and are about supernatural events. Mai resemble Yuki, and Kazuya - Zero. Relations between them are also very similar.

Mysterious cases that involve various kinds of ghost/youkai/mystical creatures. Similarity: ** 1/2

Already with the first episode this show feels like Ghost Hunt - the paranormal service for hire in particular. Plus you have all the same various magicks like shinto, onmyoudo, etc.

Ghost Hunt is about supernatural investigations. Tantei Gakuen Q is also about investigations, it may not be supernatural, or have good animation (old) but if you like good detectives stories, then watch this 2 animes.

It's another great comedy/romance shojo series, although it's definitely got less of a horror/mystery flavor.

Dark, Gothic and supernatural... the characters are interesting and they are trying to solve the phenomena that occur in their world and try to stop them.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
Why did the deaths occur? Both Anime are arc based and have a Gothic art style to them. The characters are unique as well, and the music is also similar in some regards.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
The stories revolve around a group of kids hunting down beings that effect the other world, though each is a tad different from the other.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
Dark detective stories with a gothic feal to the art. Both have a simular feal, despite one being aligned to reality, while the other is aligned to the supernatural.

both have a great mix of comedy and ghost stories, both have beatiful animation, and i dig both...

Eerie mysteries in both animes solved predominantly with logic (although Ghost Hunt involves more supernatural occurrences). In both animes the 2 main characters are partners in solving mysteries, separated by a considerable age gap. The younger accomplice is just a high schooler, but has more potential than initially thought, while the older accomplice specializes in what they do.
report Recommended by lunafly
They both deal with the supernatural, they have this eerie feeling, sometimes horror. Both are just great! If you like Ghost Hunt, then you'll like Jigoku Shoujo. (And the other way round.)
report Recommended by Samu-tan
both have mystery suspense plots, with similar art style, and humor. it could be argued that that character roles are reversed which give this anime a little bit of stand offish- ness to some audiences, but is actually a pretty minor part of the story. the ages of the characters is similar too, but in a younger form.
report Recommended by wolfbreed699
Both anime are set in our own world, thou in diffrent times (Shounen Onmoyouji is set several houndreds years ago, Ghost Hunt is set in present day world) and they are about individuals exorcising evil spirits and protecting others from curses. It should be noted, that althought both anime have very similar main theme, Shounen is more action oriented and Ghost Hunt is more about puzzle solving.

They both Deal with supernatural phenomenon and both have Boy detectives and a female main character that joins the detective agency.

Solving mysteries. Ghost Hunt tries to find the what and why's and so does the Medicine Seller.

natsume is more relaxed, whilst ghost hunt is more complex and less supernatural/mystical. however same humour, and both amazingly enjoyable watches.

beautiful music (same person who did it). supernatural mysteries which are then solved. ghost hunt is more comedy, whilst mushishi is more relaxed, yet both are brilliant

Both are dark series that deal with the paranormal. The paranomal dealt with is ugly, in each series own way. And that is not meant as an insult.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
They are both creepy and dark but have a very good story line and have very likeable characters.
report Recommended by Fayt
both anime have a very similar dark and bittersweet atmosphere. the female protagonist dont know much about them selfs in the begining until later on. they both find out they are special and that they have some special supernatural power. both anime have a very mysteroius feel to it and makes u want to find out the truth. and what there characters are in the end and there back stories.
report Recommended by animegirl16091
They have very different premises, but both Ghost Hunt and Juuni Kokki are based off of light novels by Fuyumi Ono. On that note, so is Shiki.
report Recommended by thechibidevil
Holmes and Naru are similar characters, both being smarter than average and with a somewhat dark personality (although Holmes is a much friendlier and nicer than Naru). Ghost Hunt is also a lot more serious and with a deeper plot (and a better series), but the general idea of both shows is not that different. It's not 100% guaranteed that you will like one if you liked the other, but it may be worth trying.

Both shows deal with the supernatural. Both have a cast of characters that use different approaches to deal with supernatural. Both have their own sense of humor. Ghost Hunt's is more about mystery and suspense. Blue Exorsist is more action.

i dont really have a show that this is like. but its basically a "horror" anime about paranormal activity, at first it starts slow. every episode has multiple parts and each story gets more and more creepy/paranormal. basically high school ghost hunters
report Recommended by SilentOni
Both deal with people having supernatural abilities of sensing Ghosts and forming a team later on. Though Ghost Hunt is more case oriented while Sankaku Mado no Sotogawa wa Yoru deals the personal lives of the characters. Both are very interesting and have the characters becoming a team to solve something together.

Ghost Hunt doesnt really have much in common w/ Hiiro except maybe ghosts and supernatural powers. But they both have the main male lead have a tremendous power within that u dont find out until the end. The main female leads also discover their power throughout the anime, but Mai discovers her power way faster than Tamaki. And John remings me a bit of Shinji and Naru reminds me of Takuma a bit. Ghost Hunt ends with a sort of unresolved resolution though, but I loved it. It is one of a kind.

Here we have two anime with a very similar concept : a group of students involved in supernatural horrific situations and trapped in closed areas , and try to figure-out a solution to bring peace ( exorcise to be precise ) to the ghosts they are dealing with. However, Ghost Hunt is oriented to paranormal investigation and have not real gore scenes.

Both have supernatural elements and the main character sets share a similar dynamic
report Recommended by meadragon
Both are similar in terms of ghost stories / paranormal activities. In both, they engage in ghost hunting. In 'Dark Gathering,' they solve mysteries and hunt ghosts. Additionally, the characters (except the mc) love horror stories and enjoy exploring cursed places. In 'Ghost Hunt,' they solve mysteries and hunt ghosts as part of their job.
report Recommended by goldenotaqu
Both Vatican Kiseki Chousakan and Ghost Hunt share an atmosphere of highly stylized mystery. There is a sense that the protagonists are trying to rationally examine a supposedly supernatural phenomena through the lenses of Science and History. There are situations that are genuinely horrifying, but there are also moments of extremely campy graphic violence or splatter effects. Fans of one would likely thoroughly enjoy the other.

Clever mystery series with enticing characters

They are both mysteries and psych type genre. The difference is this is a detective case where as Ghost hunt is a more of a spiritual/ghost searching detective. Besides from the same creepy vibes and similar genre type, everything else is different.

Mieruko and Ghost Hunt has some kind of similarity with both horror and comedy. Both explores ghosts. Unlike Mieruko, Ghost Hunt is more of a research kind of ghost hunting while Mieruko is about Power. Although both Anime shares dispelling ghosts.

Both mysteries. Main protagonist is a girl, gets roped into investigations by main male protagonist. Both school aged teens. Difference? Tantei Team is slice-of-life and Ghost hunt has horror and supernatural elements.

dark plot line with great character development and both have love interests that actually play a somewhat major part of the story development.
report Recommended by wolfbreed699
Both anime are about a group of people with supernatural powers who receive requests to investigate and deal with demon/ghost possessions, and they both have mystery, horror and comedy elements.

Both Ghost Hunt and Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin deal with the supernatural and both follow a new recruit to the main team. While Ghost Hunt strictly focuses on ghosts and the spiritual, no Occult focuses more on cryptids and mythological creatures. Both main characters are new to their respective fields and must "learn on the job," often creating friction with the "old timers." Both leads can be portrayed as clueless at times, but often are then shown to have a valid view on situations.

Ghost Hunt and Bakemonogatari anime are similar in that they deal with many different supernatural mysteries. They are divided into several arcs. Each arc deals with different cases. If you are into the Mystery genre which involves supernatural beings, I recommend these animes.

Falls into the supernatural category but is focused more on the humor side. Both have some classic jump scares. Both MC stumble into the situation by accident.

the same school/youth setting. both good dramas, and has good action. ghost hunt is more supernatural (crime involving supernatural phenomena) whilst shigofum is more serious and darker/more gruesome (letters from the dead which stir up trouble), but both are good watches. also has a very small touch of comedy to both of them.

If your looking for an anime that pulls you into the story and mystery with great animation you will find that Shion no Ou and Ghost Hunt have these in common, Ghost Hunt is about supernatural mysteries and Shion no Ou's mystery is about finding the killer in a real world crime, they both have fantastic animation and a tiny hint of romance, great characters and fantastic mysteries! If you liked one you will definately like the other.

Both of these series hunt down the supernatural and make it so that it doesn't bother other people.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
Both are very scary animes about a group of people that deals with strange supernatural things and at the same time tries to survive.
report Recommended by Orulyon
Both series involve exorcists dealing with evil with a female as the main protagonist. However, Ghost Hunt takes a more traditional approach as opposed to fighting evil with swords, etc. But both are great series for supernatural suspense and action.
report Recommended by killbethy
On the basic level these two animes are very dissimilar, but ignoring that, they have a very similar feel. Both deal with powers of some sort and have somewhat stand alone episodes. The main characters are young girls who are strong (more physically so in HY) and going on adventures of sorts. Also, they both share a mix of humor and creepiness (a little more creep and a little less humor in GH).

Ghost Hunt and Dantalian no Shoka are simple series involving paranormal investigations. Ghost Hunt has a more traditional approach to the paranormal with scary atmospheric ambiance. It avoids leaning on fantasy and broader supernatural elements. Dantalian no Shoka leans more on the supernatural and fantasy with mysteries based on an occult curses. Both series have an episodic storyline. You'll quickly know after watching one case if you like the series because they do not deviate from their formula.

Both series are about supernatural cases that need to be solved. Also, they are built up in a similar manner, each case covers a few episodes, then they move on to the next case.

Both shows revolve around a team of people solving cases that have to do with the supernatural. Although Kuroshitsuji includes demons, shinigamis and similar creatures, Ghost Hunt revolves more-so around spirits and hauntings. Regardless, what these two shows have in common are the 3-4 episode arcs that are tie together to describe a full story.
report Recommended by VK11
Both have intense story lines, complex and intertwineing episodes set in a sci-fi / fantasy atmosphere. Both very watchable. Main characters develop powers, many plot lines run parallel
report Recommended by Nappix
The main heroines of both animes are similar: a sweet, good-natured orphan who bravely struggles with life and then meets some guys who come to take care of her (and the other way round). Ghost Hunt also contains a series of ghost myseries the main characters have to solve.

Look closely and you'll think. "These two animes are nothing alike". Le Portrait de Petit Cossette has more of a dramatic feel to it, while Ghost Hunt slides way more towards a comedy(Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is very VERY far from a comedy). But for some reason, they both appealed to me in a similar way. So if you're looking for a horror, dramatic version of Ghost Hunt with a tad of romance, go for Petit Cossette. If you're in the mood for a more lighthearted supernatural anime, go for Ghost Hunt.
report Recommended by Nayelianne
They are similar in the act of getting rid of something evil. Each episode is mind bending. Plus the two main characters show a love towards eachother. The art style is very similar and the story line is somewhat carelessly put together the same way.

Even though their storyline were different, there do share some similar points. The animation quality were quite similar. There had enjoyable characters. There both focuses on comedy, horror and supernatural stuff. When I watch this, it remind me of D.Gray-Man. So,if you love this series, you may like or love D.Gray-Man. Try it out.:D

Both series have the main character as a part time worker at their organisation. Also both series are mainly about hunting viruses/ghosts.

When I began watching Monster, it reminded me of Ghost Hunt. While Ghost Hunt has supernatural elements, the small stories that take place in the series have similar aura. They are usually both about murder and betrayal and they can also be quite frightening. Finally, the psychological element is present in both.

Clannad: A good anime that can call the tears to break out. Ghost hunt: Another good anime that kan make tears come out. Clannad: An anime that has a lot of good story and alot of lovey dovey but still some very serious parts and some funny ones two. Ghost hunt: An anime that is serious most of the time but still have some comedy and a little lovey dovey in the sideline. All in all: They both are some realy good animes and if you dont watch any of them you are going to regret it.

Both focuses on the paranormal and scary aspects of storytelling. While Higurashi can be downright wicked, gruesome, and horrifyingly disgusting, Ghost Hunt dwells more on a Scooby-Doo type of investigations that can be just as scary and horrifying.

The key similarity is the interaction between the male and female protagonist and their character design (more or less). Chiaki (Nodame Cantabile) is very similar to Naru (Ghost Hunt) in the sense that they are both young, handsome, talented, narcissistic, self centered etc.. Nodame (Nodame Cantabile) is similar to Mai (Ghost Hunt) where they are both klutzie characters, a bit of an air head, but has a latent talent that surprises our male lead. The interaction between the two pairs is what makes the similarity stand out. The super one sided infatuation from both Nodame and Mai to Chiaki and Naru respectively are pretty much the same.  read more

Jigoku Sensei Nube and GH both deals with paranormal activity. Nube is much more lighthearted and comedic than GH and incorporates more Japanese mythology than in GH. Although there were some genuinely creepy moments in Jigoku Sensei Nube as well.

Ghost Hunt feels like if Yami Shibai decided to have longer arcs with recurring characters and added a bit of bad comedy into the mix. Don't get me wrong, I love the bad comedy in Ghost Hunt, it helps with the cheesy horror wonderfully. I find the stories in both of these to be memorable and appropriately creepy, though nothing that will prevent you from sleeping. They also both have great audio design (essential in this genre) and the music is also good.
