Why people never learn?

I was wondering why it seems that people never learn, when we're creatures that have dominated through our well developed ability to learn(meanings of symbols, words/grammar, tools, stories etc.).
I know we learn things like those above, and seem to remember them quite well. However it is always in self-interest that we learn these things, all in the name of continuation, of our lives, comforts and ideals. And It appears to be because of this that we always hear complaints of how we never change, how we're always violent and always on a path of disillusioned destruction.
I've observed(and participated in) this blind 'learning', where we make a mistake, and if the negative consequences aren't immediately forthright, we continue making the mistake. It only seems that we'll actively correct this if everyone around us encourages this 'correction'.
So can't this be put down to social trends? As we learn our social trends, technically that means our perpetual mistakes are all learned. So our learning, from those around us, to make these mistakes has effectively limited our learning! We've grown up being taught not to learn! I don't know if I've made this obvious, but it's what I'd call a paradox. In being taught, we learn, but if we are taught not to learn...?

I think this is why people smoke, drink, kill, steal, are bigots, racists, sexists, egotists, and generally fuck everything with a hole. We won't change because no one wants a change, yet we're meant to be this amazing creature of 'learning', seriously if someone (a friend, 'superior' whoever!) does/says something stupid. Fucking tell them! Make a change in your stupid social circle!

...but you could also say we're just too damned lazy, shit the human brain already consumes 20% of our total energy at rest! We don't want that thing running up hills! I wouldn't be able to perpetuate my worthless and destructive, yet comfortable, life with all that thought going on!

My sketch blog...thing

I've always been interested in people, with the human form being a part of that, I was always interested in drawing people. In recent times I've used Burne Hogarth as a major reference for different sketches I've done, and just a general dictionary for the way the human body moves and is composed.
Here's a couple;

My flatmate spilled wine on the bottom left of the next page (explanation for Fran being there trying to drink it)

Motoko can be so cold...

This next one I was interested in seeing the lengths and different ways of using the ink pen(as it was the 3rd time, according to my recent memory, I'd used one for a full pic)

Dammit, in the next one (a sort of parody of 'Duke Nukem') the lettering looks warped, though it looks fine in the actual piece...I guess I must have some sort of 'artists blindness', mneh

I'd like to describe my business as the milk business... or the advanced milk business, with perks of course. I get good quality milk to all you milk lovers, all you people in need of serotonin and all those happy hormones!

Of course some people aren't happy with just any old milk...
That's where milk PLUS comes in

Likes:

People, they're funny things..

Dislikes:

aggression

The fact that so many people don't understand how aggression works. Either it is suppressed within the person, causing damage to oneself. Or it is released/vented, causing damage to the society around oneself.
My thoughts are that in understanding this you finally realise the reasons for the actions of many leaders and people in positions of power. To first get to these positions they must have a certain level of aggression, and they either make others suffer or suffer themselves because of this.
A leader who suppresses their aggression is conflicted between making the best choice for those depending on them, and keeping them happy. Conversely an aggressive leader is inwardly collected and 'contented', while those under his influence suffer.
This coincides with one of the core Machiavellian concepts defining a good leader (or 'prince' as he described it); that good can result from evil actions.

...just thought it was an interesting idea I had, I think I thought of it after watching some anime. Might have a connection, dunno... get a punching bag or a lady-friend, which ever is cheapest

cars

We really wish we were making that up for, you know, dramatic effect because goddamn, what a terrible thing a three-inch acid-shooting hornet would be, you know? Oh, hey, did we mention it shoots it into your eyes? Or that the poison also has a pheromone cocktail in it that'll call every hornet in the hive to come over and sting you until you are no longer alive?

Think you can outrun it? It can fly 50 miles in a day. It'd be nice to say something reassuring at this point, like "Don't worry, they only live on top of really tall mountains where nobody wants to live," but no, they live all over the goddamned place, including outside Tokyo.

Saito guy!

After watching one of the Ghost in the Shell; SAC 2nd GIG (damn long name) where Saito got impatient and went all commando in Mexico to help the local people (which I think we all should try, come on we're a bit over-due for some good ol' samaritan guerrilla warfare) I thought why not sketch some heroic thingy...well it's hard to portray him as a classic hero because he's kind of a guerrilla sniper fighting the powers that be (many would class that as less than honorable, thus not heroic), and the definition of a hero is someone who triumphs despite overwhelming odds. So I thought a good climb would show this...its pretty deep huh?

I wondered why...

...I was always interested in people. The way they talked, looked, thought, acted...it always fascinated me. I always thought, or at least was always led to believe, that it was because people were so unpredictable, and I suppose that still is the reason. But in talking to some 'free thinking' individual last Saturday night, I realized this wasn't the root of my interest.
It was that it is so difficult to study, or at least examine something when you are involved in it. It's usually quite difficult to map a continent from ground level. I discovered my continual interest was spurned by my continual ignorance and involvement in the complex game of human life. I become very focused and engrossed in a subject I don't understand, until I feel I've at least got the 'jist' of it, and because I've been raised to be fully submerged (forget the subtle oxymoron there) in humanity, my 'study' or understanding of human nature has been undermined.
A great example presented itself today, I was playing chess with a friend (and I already hold a solid belief that chess reflects life) while another friend watched. He was able to see a multitude of moves that could have aided either side, but when I asked him if he wanted to play, he replied that when playing he couldn't think of any of these moves because he would be too focused on playing the game. I myself find this with watching chess, and with life also. Once you are fully a part of it, you are unable to look at the bigger picture. So you don't have the knowledge to go against it, or how to make criticisms of it.

The sketch that made me laugh

You probably won't laugh at this if you haven't seen Azumanga Daioh and read Calvin and Hobbes(I grew up on that shit!), but it actually made me laugh a little to myself.
I mean, here you have Calvin; short, a boy who idolizes all those boy things (dinosaurs, jet planes, space ships etc. etc.), and very extroverted in his weirdness. And then you have Sakaki; tall, a girl who adores all that is cute and essentially girly (kitties...uh, pink things etc. etc.), and extremely introverted in her weirdness. I guess the only thing that brings them together is their innate oddness, I guess in the form of Hobbes. So I couldn't help drawing this little picture...

A girl's story

...Actually it's more of the story about her dad she told me. I was at one of those stupid parties where everyone was drinking and taking drugs, buying and selling themselves with no thought for the wonderful consequences. When I was presented with a pretty face which my slightly drunk (male) mind instantly added intelligence too. So I listen to what I already decided was going to be a charming tale (I'd say it was! lol).

Her dad had recently died at the over-ripe age of 80 (which was strange because she was approximately the same age as me +or- a couple of years, I'm 20), so she needed him to be remembered I guess, and will he ever! During some sort of conflict in Indonesia between the Dutch and Indonesians (I think she said there were Chinese somewhere in there) around 60 years ago, her father was a doctor for the triad(s) (Chinese mafia, he was Balinese). I suppose through this he earned some big money, however was forced to eventually flee to Europe through complications. Here he became a dancer(!?) who toured, but eventually settled as a much loved pimp(!!??) in a city in northern Europe. He apparently ran his business from an attic, I had to stop her there and question this. Isn't the best place to sell your wares on ground level? With the open-window-shopping like in parts of Amsterdam?
Anyway, she brushed that off and proceeded to tell me how he got into this business through everyone's need to have sex with him, he was apparently a handsome man. Also one who respected women immensely (she stressed), I guess I was wrong in thinking that all pimps are violent oppressors. Still I agree that what is a professional prostitute but an honest woman? As in a way all women are conditioned to sell themselves, long term whores for the greedy man's pleasure. He says he'll love her but only has a fleeting physical affection for her, as she does for him... Lets not get into my opinion on patriarchal society ^_^.
There might be a small gap in my memory here, as next I remember him moving to New Zealand to teach dance up and down the country. He does this for around 10 years (meets this girl's mother) has a few children and settles in Island Bay (Wellington). Unfortunately all of his children have ended up as drug addicts, some he disowned, all he raised liberally. This girl, Prii X.(can't remember her last name, starts with X), has a disowned brother 17 years older than her, and many siblings in-between.

Now I don't know how much of this I've miss-recalled, how much she has embellished, incorrectly recalled, how honestly she was told the story, or how much her father correctly remembered from his whirlwind life. I'd only had 6 beers, but her dress was low cut which may have cut out 40%, but thank god her shoulders were covered or I may be telling of a 58 year old Mongolian transvestite vying for Popeship!
I have to find her to get the full story I can't remember, It's worthy of film (using the themes and ideas from classics like The Kreutzer Sonata maybe?), if not a light, light novella.

the 2 reasons (that are actually one)

It's funny how people can turn a defeat into victory, they just love a good paradox in life. America first got on it's feet through augmenting its legs with slaves, someone to work in the fields in return for a generally inferior existence. Get some cheap workers that you can force into what could be loosely defined as flexible labor, who cares about their mental stability really!?
Unfortunately some people had this ridiculously altruistic vision of equality! So the damn civil war raged, some 600,000 people got knocked out of the gene pool, and the US got the 14th amendment! So they were now seriously lacking in slaves, I felt for those capitalist porkers, I really did. Fortunately they had some cheeky little corporate lawyers, who were really having a hard time earning their bucks with all the restrictions on corporate ventures.
These shrewd little bourgeoisie found that with the 14th amendment, they were able to convince the courts to allow corporations to be treated like a singular person. Allowing them the buying, selling and suing rights of any ol' Joe supping moonshine. In the first 30 or so years, the 14th amendment was used in court over 280 times...by corporations, and under 20 times by African Americans.
So thanks to the black man, America got a leg up. And thanks to an attempt to free them, now we're all slaves.

A corporation can go into Mexico and under international trading rights, be treated as a Mexican citizen. A Mexican can go to New York, ask to be treated equally, and be lucky to survive.

Feminism?

Let's get this out of the way first..
Feminists can (usually) be placed within three categories;

Liberal Feminists- Stereotypically put; one of those women in a crisp business suit, high heels, tight bun haircut and thick rimmed glasses. A Liberal Feminist has no problem whatsoever with the patriarchal way in which this world is ruled, in fact she supports it. Her goal is to join the ranks of high-rise businessmen, get the car, the house, the office view, the TV, and the current societies approval.

Communist Feminists- The polar opposite of the liberal, a woman belonging to this 'class' of feminism seeks to topple the oppressive patriarchal, bourgeoisie leaders of this world. She sees the root of the problem as being our system of mainly male rule, including the male-constructed capitalist world market.

Radical Feminists- A basic belief that all men are scum, almost everything to do with men is shunned (including sexual relations). Their views on resolving the 'male problem' are usual quite severe and generally not well thought out (in my opinion).

I'd like to ask where feminism has gone, where is it going? Has it split off into more sub-branches? Has it gone back underground? Do we care?...
I obviously do, and think it's going in the wrong damn direction. The original ideals and beliefs of feminism were great, get women in universities, varying workplaces, get them respect and equal reward for their effort. Unfortunately like most pure ideals placed in the hands of people, this was twisted and reformed into a force to be used by a specific group for exclusive gain.
Modern feminists have been blinded by their own recently discovered power, in a desperate (or greedy) rush to gain everything they can as quickly as they can, all strategy has gone out the proverbial window. An almost disgustingly ignorant case of this is that of a lecture given by a feminist scholar in the US (I'm really sorry about the lack of reference here) where a member of the audience belonging to a feminist group stood when the subject of geniuses came up, and denied the existence of geniuses. This is because there is scientific evidence that suggests there are more male geniuses than female. HOWEVER, there are many more male morons than female.
Now if we think on this logically from an evolutionary perspective, it fits perfectly. If the majority of women had a decent (yet not excessive) intelligence they would be capable of adequately raising children, however not be so smart as to be hindered in this action by being put in a position of power. This is also true for males, the hunters/laborers don't need to be overly smart, and the leaders aren't too distracted from making important group decisions.
What many feminists today want is an ignorant conclusion, they want us all to be treated exactly the same when we're not! It's a classic case of culture overtaking biological evolution, men and women are different! We are formed by and subject to different hormones, a woman will naturally struggle in a male dominated workplace because it's a high energy environment driven by testosterone, as a man would be hindered in a female dominated field. This doesn't even take into account the varying cultural upbringings of different people, what they see as respectful could easily be interpreted as offensive, which would be becoming more common in increasingly globalized workplaces/environments.
My main conclusion from this is that nothing is free from corruption... hahaha I'm sorry but I couldn't help but use that line. Take what you will from this
