It's actually unlike any other film in the Ghibli canon because they're known to step outside the box when it comes to plot and story telling. Like I said Laputa is very conventional. That being said, Laputa is also very solid. Miyazaki has a knack for elevating basic stories with likable characters, fantastical elements, and beautiful visuals. It’s a wonderful example of its genre, more suited for children than adults, but like (many) Disney films, it’s the type of movie that can be enjoyed by all audiences. This movie is funny, suspenseful, heart-warming, pretty much anything you could want, and one of my personal favorites.
