Highschool of the Dead (Anime) add
Arch-Defender
Highschool of the Dead, the same old zombie story right? Not exactly, this time it’s done right. If you’re tired of watching zombie movies one after another trying to find one that get’s it then stop searching and just watch this one, you won’t regret it.

Opening sequence: 8
Ending sequence 1: 7
Ending sequence 2: 7
My Age Rating: 12: Blood, violence, gore, sexuality. While not intense or abundant enough to be considered in the extremes, it’s still a pretty mature title.

The story is obviously centered on a zombie infestation and how a group of survivors must manage to live through it all but since this is an anime, the setting isn’t a mall but a highschool. Or at least it is at first but anymore would spoil the show so I’ll leave it at that.

The characters are based on what some might called stereotype or character types but it hardly matters, as they purposely did so to bring these clichés to their limit. They pushed the characters as far as they could and while at first some might doubt their originality, as the story progress their back stories and their attitudes will reveal unique characters. As for what to expect: Theres Komuro, the cool highschool kid who can handle himself in a fight. Rei, the crush of the main character but she’s got a bad attitude and knows how to handle a lance as well. Saeko, the Katana wielding badass silent girl. Saya, a bitchy defenceless but smart girl and there is a whole lot of other interesting characters.

The show’s English dub is great. Its well acted and it’s very much suited to the genre. As some may have heard minor changes were made from the original script in the dubbing and while I don’t agree with such methods I must still admit that a fan of zombie apocalypse movies will be pretty satisfied with this one who offers cursing, which isn’t typical of Japanese shows hence added in the dub, and some lines being re-written to insert jokes an American audience would understand.

This series offers everything you might want in the risqué department; going from intensive and unbelievably sexy fanservice to brutality and violence. Yes the fanservice is there and it’s not only intensive, its epic I’d say. A scene in the later episodes actually surpasses The Matrix’s Neo when it comes to slow motion bullet dodging in the shear epicness of the fanservice being presented. The violence is abound and while not as gory as could be it defiantly holds up for a zombie story.

In the end it’s a good zombie story that should be pleasing to those who enjoy the genre, like fanservice or are into violent action packed shows. Recommended for doing an excellent job at being what it should be.
