Spoiler
This review will be discussing the light novel, not the manga or anime.
A slight disclaimer before hand is in order, I've only had the opportunity to read the first 3 out of 9 published books so far, but it certainly is enough to paint a fairly detailed picture of my impressions.
The story can be a little generic, although the setting is very interesting, albeit a tad outrageous. No major spoilers here, but the generic harem that's inevitably built up is made rather...uniquely.
I enjoy this series not for its generic characters, or the ridiculous plot devices, but the setting and character development that is relatively fantastical, detached from reality just enough for a sizable amount of preposterousness but not so far fetched as to alienate us in the real world.
I suppose the main purpose of this review was to supply the new (English speaking)fans of Hidan no Aria courtesy of J.C. Staff's anime adaption with directions for finding a version of the light novel they can read, and they can find it on baka tsuki, the fan translation wiki.
I'll be updating this review as more translated volumes are put out, but as the anime follows the novel very faithfully, any future reviews should target Volume 3 and beyond, as the chapter per episode will end the season with the conclusion of the second book.
