At the time that I watched it, B Gata H Kei was one of the most ecchi, borderline hentai series that I had seen (up there with Kiss X Sis and Yosuga no Sora). Obviously, newer shows have eclipsed even this, but not always in a good way... Despite the strongly-ecchi nature, they've made the show into an interesting comedy about a girl looking for sex buddies, and is yet still a virgin herself. As this is NOT a direct hentai, she is doomed to fail at her goal repeatedly in the show (though I guess they could have pulled a Yosuga no Sora...). What is surprising is that they were able to do all this while integrating a decent character development.

This is a good show if you're alright with occasional nudity and LOTS of fan service because of the portrayal and unique personalities of the characters. If you are easily offended by such NSFW scenes and the idea of a girl being a huntress, then maybe this isn't for you.

Animation:
The animation is up to date in terms of quality. Character designs are good (typical good looking female lead with a mediocre guy) and colors are full but not over-saturated. Nudity and suggestive sexual acts (such as groping, fondling, rubbing, etc.) are pervasive in this series. The nudity is partially covered by a demon icon in the TV releases, which is removed for the blue rays. My only qualm would be the plain, simple backgrounds used in the show.

Sound:
The OP is fairly good, a bit latin-y and a bit on the seductive side. The ED is a bit slower paced but also has a nice main melody. Both are sung by Yamada. The BGM is a bit distinctive in this series, heavily utilizing brass instruments, giving it a fun, flirtatious mood. Tamura Yukari does a great job on voicing Yamada (compare with Excel in Kurokami) giving her lots of energy and determination, the other VAs do a fine job but she's definitely the star in this.

Story:
So Yamada wants 100 sex buddies, but gets weirded out every time a guy approaches her. Therefore, she decides that her first "victim" must also be a virgin. Enter Kosuda, a ridiculously average looking dude that happens to meet all of Yamada's one criteria, he's a "cherry boy".

The story basically shows Yamada's attempts at approaching him and how the two eventually grow closer, despite uncountable numbers of misunderstandings and miscommunications. This is made even more fun due to Yamada's ego (wonder if most girls are like this) that prevents her from really ever being honest with Kosuda.

Underneath all the ecchiness, this is actually a fairly heartwarming story, think like those movies where a person is set up to "date" another person for money or on a dare, and actually end up liking them; this is one of those.

Character:
Yamada is easily one of the most entertaining characters in recent memory. You can tell what she wants but she won't ever say it directly. This combined with her seemingly unnatural sex drive makes her extremely impatient, especially when Kosuda doens't get her "hints", which often backfire and lead him to believe that she hates him. What is funny is that unlike many other harem series where the girl is just all over the guy all the time, Yamada is actually, realistically, hard to read.

Kosuda is a pretty bland character but you also have a very lively support group, including one of the first roles voiced by Mamiko Noto, where she isn't a timid, quiet person.

In any case, the resulting character development between Yamada and Kosuda is absolutely great in this series, if only there was a bit more depth with the other characters.

Value:
This was a very fun series to watch, not at work of course. You'll get a few laughs and wonder how this ended up on TV a few times as well. Then you ask yourself, would you really want to date a Yamada?
