Here we have a single mother and her son living together... the spawn of so many cliché incest manga. Yet even with a title that literally means “Even If Mother is” this manga thankfully doesn’t drop to the lowest common denominator by relying on such clichés. Instead the story happens to follow the mother in question and her son’s separate lives, as it all slowly converges. The lust-driven relationships are all quite in-depth and provide a fair bit of drama along with plentiful H-scenes. There really aren’t that many negative things to say about it, just that this is a Hentai manga so you can expect your fair share of problems with the story; such as the pacing and the character’s mindset.
The mindset of these characters tend to pivot between believable (Miharu’s lustful behaviour) to plain absurd (Yamane’s lustful behaviour). Although the characters themselves make the manga a rousing read, since there’s a lot of copulation and conflict amongst them and they all have interesting back-stories (something Tsuya-Tsuya doesn’t often do).
Well if you’re familiar with Tsuya-Tsuya’s works then you’d know what to expect from the artwork… “Nothing much…” The artwork in this manga is as plain as one can imagine and even during the sex scenes there’s not much of a change in style or detail except the panels taking up most of the page. Nonetheless everyone has their own opinion on artwork because ones taste will determine whether you’ll be fond of it or not. I’m obviously not.
In the end Tatoeba Haha Ga isn’t like most h-manga where aesthetic appeal takes priority over a good story. Sure it would be better if Tsuya-Tsuya could draw better but I’d take a sensational, sordid story over some average looking artwork any day. Over the span of 6 volumes the mangaka certainly did a good job in keeping the illicit affairs interesting, although there are instances when it gets somewhat repetitive but these instances are few and far in between. More mangaka should take this example of not conforming to the norm and try to do something that’s rarely done, because you could stumble upon something good.
