Connected follows an assortment of cloud surfing robotic orbs as they crash land on the surface and grow into giant cities, along with a variety of characters as they go about their daily lives, from commuting to picking up a date to napping on a demolished bus. The narrative isn't the most comprehensible aspect, but it's fast paced, ever-moving, futuristic and edgy; very befitting and complimentary of the songs tempo.
The animation and art style has that unique Studio 4°C vibe and is probably the videos most engrossing element. It's extremely crisp and vibrant, although some frames are unfortunately repeated. The characters are a particular point of interest; they're a lively bunch, all on the move, dressed in hip, funky outfits which fail to tire - their designs are extremely varied and visually pleasing.
As this is a music video, the sound aspect is of course very subjective. Connected is a trance song, unlike most of Ayu's pop-focused library. Nevertheless, it's a good place to start if you're new to the singer. Ayu's voice is very addictive and the music isn't as repetitive as some trance recordings can be.
All in all, Connected is a classic Studio 4°C short. A concise piece with dazzling imagery and a lot to look at, but a sufficient at best narrative. If you have a few tiresome minutes to spare, Connected will more than help you out; both the video and the song.
