Death Note and Mirai Nikki are incredibly similar series, though Mirai Nikki is (as of now, at least) much less mainstream than Death Note. Both series are about god-like creatures giving people supernatural abilities (the death note and the future diaries) and both become a game of survival to the characters in the series. They have similar themes of outsmarting and eliminating everyone who gets in your way and have a very grey scale opinion on justice and morality.

Both shares supernatural kind of note/diary giving its owner great possibilities.There is also similar way of creating story that is based on scheming and sudden plot twists.DN is more about inner dialogues while MN is pure action with lot of rolling heads and explosions

Death Note and Mirai Nikki are both mind puzzling.Hiding their identities and also finding a way to kill the opponent.they also have the similarities having a God,Shinigami etc.
Light and Yuno are both scary and smart.
both have some sick and twisted cat and mouse type mindgames and any second could lead to death for either of the characcters and a god like being behind all the chaos that goes on in the story.
