Both main characters have a hobby that they try to hide from other people. Both series are comedy, although Chuunibyou is much better and smarter in humor, and also in the development of characters. The theme and atmosphere are similar in both series is school and otaku style.

Despite social constructs for the individuals, both anime shows the struggles of living with an odd and unconventional interest. Being chuunibyou behaviour for Rikka and eroge for Kirino. With characters, Yuuta and Kyousuke made to support them with their strange hobbies.
Both are good s.o.l comedy about uncanny hobbies and how to deal with them as such.
