If you like dark/mystery anime like Shiki, you should watch xxxHolic, and the other way around. I couldn't get through with Shiki, but xxxHolic is a lot better. It is simplistic yet surprising, and the story is easy to follow.

All though these are two VERY different anime I find them to have a few similarities like the arts styles are a luttke similar. They can both be dark, although with xxxholic it has more comedy. But for the most part if you like one you should like the other.

Both are dark supernatural themed stories with a young mc getting caught up in the strange and bizzare events around him and some hot femme fatale like ladies in it as well too and both have this eerie vibe to it and both even had visual kei performing the music as well too!

Though xxxHolic and Shiki don't have much in common storywise, the atmospheres of these two shows are quite similar. The first season of xxxHolic is very episodic, but the second season has a clearer, overarching narrative that reminded me of Shiki while I was watching it.
