The heroine finds a cute animal or stuffed animal that can talk and takes it home. The animal then turns her into a magical girl and tells her that she has to collect jewel seeds or star drops. Soon after she has to compete with a rival magical girl.
The first thing I thought after having completed both Nanoha and Nanatsuiro Drops is "wow, it's like they're practically the same show". Sumomo and Nanoha both have to collect something, with the help of a cute "pet", which can talk. Sumomo and Nanoha both face similar tsundere "antagonists", Prima Asparas and Feito, respectively. The main difference between Nanoha and Nanatsuiro Drops is that the latter focuses much more on the love between Sumomo and Tsuwabuki-kun. There are plenty of other subtle differences to keep you amused, so unless you dislike the genre mahou shoujo, I'm sure if you loved one, you'll at least enjoy

In both animes is about magical and friendship, but also love.
Both are very fanatsy full. But well done.

Both about girls who suddenly got an item which allows them to use magic, and they both need to collect something.
And both anime's has a blonde haired rival who also want to collect those items.
In both, the main character finds a talking stuffed animal/ animal and takes it home. The main characters also has to collect stardrops/jewel seeds for their "pet."
In both, there is someone else competing for collecting those seeds/drops.
Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha and Nanatsuiro Drops have a lot in common; a human who transforms into a cute animal encounters a girl, and the main character begins her journey as a magical girl collecting scattered seeds/drops. Soon, a rival appears who is looking to collect the seeds, and the shows get progressively more dramatic. For differences, Nanoha has a lot more action, and Nanatsuiro drops' main focus is romance. While both include magic, Nanoha takes place in more of a sci-fi setting, and Nanatsuiro Drops is more fantasy-like.
Nanoha really reminds me of Sumomo and vice versa. Most of the show is kind of based around how moe you think the girls are.
