Kids - heroes of the anime - are collecting magical creatures and fighting a group of bad guys that keep getting in their way. The creatures can either level up or otherwise get stronger and continue fighting each other.
The dinosaurs in Dinosaur King are similar to Pokemon. They can both evolve, the main characters wear baseball caps, and the bad guys from Dinosaur King resemble Team Rocket from Pokemon.
Both have young protagonists who control monsters to battle. There both have comically incompetent evil teams that often clash with said heroes. The monsters can be both cute and tough. They get into a relentless amount of battles and show unyielding determination to win.
