The characters are quite similar,
Naruto is like Inuyasha, both stupid, loud, but possessing hidden power, descendants of extremely powerful characters.
Sakura is like Kagome, always walking next to the main character and acting a bit harsh, often bullying the main and causing the main to have feelings for them.
Sasuke, like Sesshomaru, is the main opponent, cold and always stronger than the main, not a righteous side nor a villain.
Jiraiya is like Miroku, they both guide the main in thinking, they all love beautiful girls, they are all perverted
Orochimaru is like Naraku, both are villains, has a rather eccentric personality and has gender issues, white skin like

I have recommended these two because, in terms of story-wise, I strongly believe they are pretty similar. Despite their appearance as just an innocent shounen show for kids to watch, it has pretty deep significance. Though it might follow the adventures of two amazing main protagonists as they battle against their own destiny and fate which was unfair from the moment they were brought into the world, it might also feel like a cliché that someone would say just to attract you into thinking that anime is light-hearted. As a matter of fact, it is indeed not light-hearted as it shows the most gruesome acts
