If you like Clannad, you definitely have to watch Kanon, since it's the predecessor and a true masterpiece.
It's similar in many ways, but it can score with great characters, great comedy, cuteness, tear breaking drama, overflowing happiness and some really really fantastic and intelligent story arcs.
School life, slice of life anime based on a visual novel. Male protagonist gets to know the backgrounds and histories of several girls at his school in successive arcs (the only way that an anime based on a visual novel can be done). Helps them through their problems, and deals with his own in the process.

Both series are very touching. Storylines are a really masterpiece. Some comedy and some drama makes that shows really enjoyable. Both Clannad~After Story~ and Kanon 2006 have brilliant music and art, also in characters behaviour we can notice a lot of similarities.
Both of these animes brought Happiness, Sadness, Anger and Hope successfully to the audience, both with relatable characters and true to life scenarios (Kanon's a little more supernatural though)
If you've seen Kanon you know what to expect with Clannad Afterstory and vice versa. Neither of these series are afraid to sacrifice main characters. Both of them have multiple, ongoing story arcs and both of them are quite sad stories until the last few episodes. Afterstory is much more similar to Kanon than Clannad the original series was mainly because Afterstory had much less of a focus on comedy and more on the drama that unfolded after the first series was over.

If you liked Clannad, you will also appreciate Kanon which is also produced by Keys. Both animes are similar in animation style, music, character design and a nice emotional story.
The lead male characters in both animes are of similar type, they go out of their way to see the smiles of others (especially people closes to them). So if you liked all he orinal aspect of Clannad you will definitely love Kanon (2006).

sadness and the out of nowhere endings(which I will not spoil!l) are very similar.these are two of my favorite anime and they are made by the same people :) I would also recommend Air.

First of all, both of these titles were done by KyoAni, have heart-warming, and breaking moments, and can truly change your outlook on life. After I finished watching Afterstory, it almost felt like I didn't know what to do with myself. I wanted more, even though I knew it was over, I couldn't help but feel sad at the fact that there was no more to watch. But Kanon is the perfect solution to this problem, because it is probably the closest thing to Clannad that can be found, and is even considered better by some people, maybe even you. Both originally created by Key, known for it's illustrious 0_0 animation designs . Both have somewhat of a familiar Harem setting, romance, school life, and a final touch of the unexpected supernatural element, that makes them very similar . A fluctuation of tears of joy, and tears of grief with mind-blowing endings in both of them .

Both Clannad and Kanon are adaptations of key visual novels. They are also both made by Kyoto Animations. Both these series are full of good characters and super sad moments. Although I think Clannad: After Story is better, I urge you to give Kanon a try. If you enjoyed Clannad, you will most likely enjoy Kanon

Has a TON of similarities, you'll see a lot characters behaving/looking the exact same as Clannad's. Some tracks made me wonder if it wasn't re-used by Clannad.
Touching story and tearjerking music. Kanon is pretty much a discount Clannad imo.
