Both deal with issues of depression, fitting in and finding your place in society. It also deals with themes of moral ambiguity and how the search for happiness can lead to what to some would appear to be bad moral behavior.
They also both have good character development, writing and plot.

Both NHK and Colorful The Motion Picture deals with issues of lonelyness, depression and self improvement. Both the protagonists are loners who have to go on a journey of self reflection and try to come to terms with who they are and what they want to do with their life. Both are really well written and are some of the best anime out there when it comes to portrayal of real life psychological issues.

Contains the same themes of self identety and figuring out who you are. They are both very realistic in how they deal with these themes and despite minor quirks or super natural elements are very grounded in reality. They are also despite sad moments, very uplifting and inspirational for people who have had to deal with the same issues themselves.
Any fan of one is very likely to enjoy the other. Strongly recomended.
