In both series, there's the theme of otaku lifestyle that is expanded beyond just a simple parody. Rather, it's part of a central theme of the show.
Both series also has many funny moments of cosplay, dialogues, and character interactions. There's also some 'romance' in between that are often poked fun at in terms of their execution. Both series also follows more of a slice of life format that is realistic and at times takes serious approach to them. Additionally, both series focuses on cultures with a taste of fun.
