Both centers a young boy who wants to pursue a career in Culinary arts. Although the difference between these two series is one focuses on Chinese cuisine while Shokugeki no Soma centers not only on Japanese cuisine but international cuisine as well. Also, Chuuka Ichiban centers in historical and fights off evil who uses food to conquer the world. I both like the two series as they both shine and has unique concept and to top it off only few cooking genre is animated so if you liked Shokugeki no Soma, you should try Chuuka Ichiban as well.

Both series revolve around cooking and chefs. Many of the reactions towards food are exaggerated, but very comedic at the same time.

Both feature aspiring young culinary talents who work hard to get to where they are. Both also highlights graphic overreactions to delicious food and intense cooking competitions where reputations are at stake. Though the contests in Cooking Master Boy takes place around the real world while Shokugeki no Souma's showdowns are within the school.

The obvious similarities of these anime are the protagonists who aim to become the best chefs and the premise of both anime have cooking battles.

They both focus on cooking and this main character wins almost every cooking battle he's in. The story is interesting and different from your normal cooking anime but staying similar at the same time. And it's cool because this was made in the 90s. It is pretty old but fun to watch anime.
