I feel like I should say something about myself here(even though I'm terrible at talking about myself) so when I feel like it...I will. I'm friendlier than this makes me seem :P
Anyone who doesn't have the balls to take a verbal smack-down after attempting to take a shot at you is just a yellow bellied creature not even worth your time. They are one of those children who like to hit other kids and then go run and hide under their mommy's skirt so they won't get hit back. It's pathetic and laughable of them.
Btw, I like your review for Code Geass, and it is the only review for Code Geass I read (I tried reading the one at the top of the page a moment ago, and I couldn't make it part the first paragraph without laughing at the "Code Geass is good because I like it." vibe of the entire review), like I said before, because the rest are rants about how much the viewers want to rub Lelouch's dong. Why don't the fanboys suck on that truth? People are such hypocrites. All reviews are rants--they either go in the direction of praise or criticism.
I did finish Utawarerumono, but I've been pretty busy otherwise. Some of it was fun, other stuff not so much(finishing the 2 weeks of chemistry homework that I have been putting off after finding out it's due tomorrow).
Yaoi implications? I don't mind them. They annoy me just as much as yuri implications would when there is no payoff, so I'm used to that sort of thing. I think I'm starting to have a thing for traps, because I end up rooting for the traps lately when I watch anime. It's happened for two anime I've seen recently.
One is a trap who dresses like a girl to get the attention of a lesbian he has a crush on. I feel really sorry for him, and I like him a lot. And his affections for her are doomed anyway. I would like them, the lesbian and him, to be the main couple because the OTHER girl who is the main love interest of the gay girl is a total troll wang and I just want to punch her face in sometimes. The trap loves the girl just as she is. But the girl loves a girl who doesn't love her just as she is. It's all convoluted, but if you read Sasameki Koto, you'll understand wtf I'm talking about.
The other is where this trap has feelings for his best friend who is a dude. It's also kind of sad because his best friend is straight. Why must the traps be so lonely!?
I can't say I relate to them and their gender disorders, because all I know is that I'm a girl, I dress like a girl, I don't feel like a boy. So their emotional issues aren't something I can understand. But I know too well how it is to like someone who can't like you back because of their sexual orientation :( so I can relate to their romantic plight. Maybe that's why I like them--they can be my Ben and Jerry.
Well, I'm sort of fed up of the average anime, and by average, I mean anything between 5 - 8. Although it's weird, I rarely rate things 5. My average is more of a 6.
Btw I see you're watching that gay?bisexual? butler anime. Is Kuroshitsuji really good or does it live up to those four letters in the middle of its name??
The first time I saw it, I thought, "Ugh, yaoi fodder." but seeing the overwhelming number of people who have seen it and the rave reviews (I didn't read any--they might be rants from fangirls, so I just looked at the scores they gave it), I wonder if it's any good or if it's an even more homosexual version of Vampire Knight. Although I liked Vampire Knight (I gave it an 8. Sheer sexiness was not enough for me to rate it higher) for its seductiveness and Gothic elements.
I had it on my PTW list since last year but took it off because I realise that trusting MAL ratings is a complete waste of time when I saw that Junjou Romantica is rated in the, what, top 100 anime on this site? I consider your opinion valid and I'll trust it, so should I or shouldn't I watch this series? I often try to keep in tow with the popular anime as well, just to know wtf people are talking about. Also, it helps with my criticism of anime on the whole. I specialise more in indie, but I need to keep abreast of the commercial stuff too.
Actually, what has spurred me to watch it is the fact that the butler has more than 2000 favourites. I mean, he must be a really damn popular character then! Even some of the more iconic anime characters don't have that many. Not even Tomoya, who is a guy's guy and a girl's anime "husbando" has as many as this Sebastien fellow. But again, it just makes me wonder if it's 2000 teenage girls on MAL who favourited him, just as I am sure that it's 4976 yaoi fangirls who rated Junjou Romantica a 9 and 10.
I thought the anime was going to be about a single father and daughter, which would have been cool. But I am very, very upset that Nagisa hardly got screentime with Ushio. I mean, this is HER daughter. The child she gave her LIFE to birth. And you tell me what--she doesn't even get a full ten minute scene with her when she comes back to life??
I wanted an OAV with mom and child, but KyoAni knows where the money is. Not in heart-warming presentation of a parent and child or husband and wife together, but of dude and the chicks. You tell me we got a Kyou After Chapter whatever and they couldn't give me even a TEN MINUTE SPECIAL about Nagisa and Ushio!? Please. I've really had it up to here with Japan and the treat the mommies like shit routine. Which is why I like Witchblade so much. I guess I'm sensitive, 'cause I'm a real mama's girl too.
And I meant more After Story disappointed me, but now that we're on the topic of Clannad disappointing... I never really thought about it. Because I went into Clannad with my expectations set to -3 and got blown away. But what I didn't like were some of the service scenes, like when Kyou and Tomoya were locked in the gym storage room. I mean, it was hilarious, but I felt like Kyou got a little too stereotypical tsundere at that moment. What I also didn't like was this one scene where Kotomi pressed her boobs into Tomoya's back. They had gone SO MANY EPISODES without this happening EVER to him, and then of all people--Kotomi?? It seemed that they wanted to remind people this was based on ero-content. I know it doesn't bother anyone else, but it bothered me.
The cheesiness of the last few episodes in regards to the drama festival were all right to me. Because Clannad is all about those moments where your family pull through for you, even if it means your dad shouting a pep talk over like 100 people's heads while you're there pissing your pants with stage fright. The point to me was... it didn't embarrass her, so it wasn't that cheesy. It worked.
After Story had too many, too many moments for me to cry and love it. But I had a lot of problems with it, and the main one being, for an anime sequel where all the action was built around Nagisa, she sure didn't feel like a main character. I felt she had a more important role in the first season, when she was competing with like four other girls for attention. But After Story is more Tomoya than anything, but I still felt they needed a bit of Nagisa to even it out.
I think some of the standout bawling moments for me were:
- Nagisa's death: OMG, talking snot and heaving etc.
- when Sanae cries on Akio shoulders: Jesus fucking Christ. It just hit me how it must be killing her that her only child, the child she fought to raise, the child that suffered so much from sickness, just ends up dying and she held it all in to try to save her son-in-law and her grandchild... dear God.
- Ushio telling Tomoya the only place she can cry is the toilet and in daddy's arms: TwT I'm fighting the tears now, actually, as sad as that is...
God, why must TTGL and Clannad AS make me a mess even just THINKING about it!?
You know, it's sad that seeing pictures of Ushio and Nagisa together makes me start to baw like a mothertrucker.
I was looking back on it, and things that deserve 10s from me in terms of their emotional impact seem to not get those scores based on some flaw in them. And the two most recent anime I can think of that deserve 10s but had flaws that make them miss that score are Clannad and TTGL. I still can't think about TTGL without feeling something, though the rage has dissipated mostly. It was the same with Clannad, but it wasn't rage as it was disappointment for that one.
Have you seen Grave of Fireflies? I think it's one of those "if you don't cry, you're heart is stone" sort of anime. I'd recommend it to you. It's a great classic and it's also one of the best things I've ever seen in my life, granted I feel like dying whenever I think about it. I might have cried more for TTGL and Clannad, but GoF affected me on a deeper level than they did, I think. I think because it's more human and realer.
EDIT: Oh, this comment wasn't a result of the previous Clannad comment on your profile. What a coincidence.
Yeah~ I find it annoying when people rate stuff 1 or 2 because they compare it to something else~ But yeah, I still prefer the series, it is much more awesome~ :P The serious-ness of all the story arcs in Clannad was what I loved most of all, especially the fact that they could switch from something funny to something so serious seamlessly~
ahaha, when they started singing the dango song in the movie ^^;; It was funny and awkward at the same time~ XP
Yeah, it resembled the psycho theme or something like that. Even though this sounds kinda weird,
but Nagisa's death in After Story was a lot more... I dunno, I suppose... more touching~ The music really fit the mood, and how the art changed to make everything seem lighter~ I think it was the flashbacks of her that made me start bawling though TT.TT
I liked how Ushio-chan finally met with Tomoya and stuff, but it was kinda rushed since it just ended like that :/ I wanted them to at least talk about Nagisa again or something~
Air was made by Key again right? Hmm... I'll check that out! :D It seems everything that Key makes has sad girls though :P
omg, ahaha, I love Kampfer :P It's kinda cute~ I'm more Natsuru x Akane than Natsuru x Sakura though~ And I burst out laughing when I first saw the ending theme! XD
I'm actually glad Elizabeth's there since Ciel actually shows some feeling/consideration for her -- tones down the gayness at least ;) Lol, you should read the manga after; there's this one chapter where Ciel gets all shy being half naked in front of Elizabeth.
Yeah, Naruto's art isn't great...but they have way better character designs than Code Geass. Lol I saw that pic too a while back; does it seem weird that it suits them?
Aw, what? I didn't think of Gantz as a horror... I thought it was a nice criticism about human nature and how disgusting we all are and why we really deserve death, but at the same time, we're magnificent things who intrinsically will stop at nothing to earn our right to live. I dunno, I loved it because I hated so much about it.
I wanted Kei to die, he was awful, but then when it came down to the end, I kept thinking, "LIVE, YOU DAMN BASTARD, FIGHT AND LIVE!!" Also, Gantz is an asshole. Then again, everybody was a douchebag in that anime, even the dog.
Actually, I think I'll still read the manga before watching the OVAs. It's only 9 chapters/2 volumes long, so I wouldn't really be wasting that much time.
Thanks for the warning, I'll take it off then --> definitely don't want to waste time on bad things.
Meh Kuroshitsuji manga isn't brilliant so I took it off my faves, however it certainly is entertaining (a lot more than the anme). A brilliant manga has to capture me emotionally as well as an awesome storytelling, so although it has excellent story telling I still feel detached from the characters. Then again, it's still early in so may get emotional later. I would definitely buy the volumes though :P In fact, I think the first English translated volume is coming out January 2010 in America (Lucky Americans -_-)
Haha I think that's what they want female viewers to be like :P I understand what you're going through with Ciel...it's the damn clothes I tell you! The shorts, top hat, cane, coat and the eyepatch - yup, definitely the eyepatch. Though I found the kid to be full of bull most of the time and extremely bratty. What do you think of Sebastian?
Oh yeah that reminds me -- you have no idea how much I lol'd at Sebastians and Ciel "Phantomhive"'s names. Cliché or what? Had me in fits of laughter XD Hey wait...I just realised that was unintentional comedy I laughed my ass of at Huh, well look at that. I really do enjoy these convos with you - I learn so much :P
Wow you found that opening to be that influential? It is a wicked opening though I remember when I first saw the opening it freaked me out big time, especially the screaming at the end. I guess it grew on me after a while, and now I have it on my iPod and phone. I can't wait till you watch Death Note. It is indeed awesome. I've still yet to find an anime that has grasped me in that much. I remember starting it in the late afternoon on a Friday and finishing it in the morning of Saturday :P
I actually do need help on this whole downloading thing. I've tried downloading three different things now and none of them work. It stays at 0% after 10 minutes of trying to download. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?
I'd recommend the anime, since it actually has an ending. The manga has been going on for ages. All manga fans hate the anime though. I loved it, since I haven't read the manga as yet.
