Yeah, abec is a girl. She was only in high school when she started illustrating for SAO light novels (I'm not sure if she's still a hs student given that it's been 4~5 years already). Due to her busy schedule, she can't attend most of the events. Therefore, BUNBUN goes in her stead. Their art styles look really similar which lead to many people believing that they are the same person. But it's proven wrong on one of abec's blog post. It seems that BUNBUN and abec are good friends. BUNBUN sometimes draws abec. In fact, BUNBUN designed ceba (one of the NPC character in SAO: Infinity Moment PSP game) based on abec.

Samurai Champloo easily has to be one of the greatest anime of all time; in my opinion at the least. Hilarious, action packed, adventure, and it's something that I would recommend to a friend that was looking to get into anime, and it is one of the titles that also helped me accept anime as well. I realize from joining MAL that everyone has a unique taste in the type of series they like to watch. Personally I just really enjoy innovative thought provoking/psychological anime, or just something with a deep/important meaning. Of course I don't limit myself to watch only these titles and I enjoy quite a good amount outside that scope. Anything unique or extremely well produced, or well executed etc. definitely earns my attention.
tldr; Samurai Champloo is a great anime for anyone.

It really depends on what type of anime you enjoy. For me it was one of those anime that couldn't have been any better. It is very experimental, psychological, and takes attention in order to reveal the depth and meaning it holds. The meaning of the show itself should be interpreted only through viewing in my opinion. Give it more than a few episodes to sink in and you should be in for an enjoyable ride if it appeals to you.

very true, I rarely review so when I do it tend to be more of a rant but that said like the point I make in my review you need the whole thing to make it have actual meaning.

An SAO review is in the pipeline, but it's down the list as I have a heap of reviews to finish (around 20 or so), and I've had to put everything on hold as I'm in the middle of some major projects.
I'll be posting it when I can though - along with the rest of them (but not all at once as that would be terribly impolite).

I am currently reading the light novels, but the animation they did which derived from the light novels actually pleasantly surprised me. Of course, it could just be my low expectations in the first place.

Yes, I've played the VN. I wasn't too impressed with it, but it did clarify a few things about the original anime adaptation and Unlimited Blade Works.
