I try to be as honest as possible these days - which is why my old scores can be confusing as they don't fit with the way I see things now. Back when I joined MAL I scored things purely on the basis of enjoyment, but these days I try to be as fair as possible with everything I watch - and that means that some shows that I enjoyed get a lower score because they fail in other ways.
In terms of scoring my system is a little different as I consider a 7 to mean that a show is only as good as everything else in it's primary genre - mainly because average doesn't exist in any realistic form when it comes to judging a show. A 6 simply means that a title had potential but failed to realise it, while an 8 is worth watching but lacks that little bit extra that would make it memorable and a classic.

Hope this helps.
