I am not a mecha person. I started watching TTGL to check out what the hype's all about. It turned out to be overrated.

Now, before you bitch at me for saying that, hear me out...

Animation: Although the series was enjoyable, I didn't understand a thing during the fight scenes. All I could remember are lines barging in and out, no image in particular stuck out. Thank goodness for non-action scenes, I get to enjoy absurd drawings of creatures I never though of possible. But because of its unique aspect, I gave it a 6.

Story: One of the good things of this series is the concept. Although the plot was simple, the concept behind it is admirable. I am a biologist so I understood well why the spiral possess so much power.

Music: One word to describe it, "COOL."

Character: Also one of the good things about this series. It showed a good light on stubborness. It simply says "Being stubborn gives you power to succeed."

Enjoyment: The first half did not really struck me. I merely continued watching to know the story. It was in the second half that things started to get exciting.

Overall: This series requires the audience to have a wide perspective on things to make it enjoyable. I asked someone from MAL what was so great about this series because I hardly found it enjoyable at first, now, I believe what made it to the top rank is pure character. All of the categories, story, art, sound and character has an elemental character imbued to it. The animation has a personal character distinct to TTGL, along with the music which was way cool and the concept of the story which was extraordinary. read more

I haven't watched Card Captor Sakura, but I heard that both these series are serialized by Clamp and both have main characters. But I do not know how alike they are in attitude. What I do know is that both have the same facial features. As such, the art has no originality, though, they were created by the same animators, in the end, you can't help but correlate both characters.

Storyline wise, traveling to other worlds is interesting, but it doesn't keep the audience hooked, in my case that is.

The art would be difficult in my own opinion, since it would take a lot of brain storming to create a different kind of world. And having succeeded at doing it, Clamp is worthy of praise.

Music, I believe stands out in this series. I am a lover of classical, opera and chorale music and using such genre appealed to me. Unfortunately, playing the same music that stand out, over and over, in the long run became annoying to me.

Like I said, some of the characters have no originality. But since this is a crossover between Card Captor Sakura, maybe they intentionally did it.

Enjoyment. I did enjoy it, but not to the point where I would hang out with it over time. I watched it because I have no other thing to watch.

Overall, I give it a 7.6. This is mainly because it did not cater to my age range. Although there are shojo productions out there that were outstanding, this was just mundane. I'd recommend this to teens aged 10-18. read more

What can I say?! I loved the animated Nodame, so why can't I not love the manga?

Although I started reading at chapter 50 or something, which is where the animation left off, I'd still say it's worth the read.

I don't know though if you'd love reading the manga when you haven't watched the animation first because you may never appreciate the music behind each story. But there are NC fans out there that started with the manga rather than with the animation, so I can't say much.

Storywise, it is a good read. If you liked how the story went through the animation, the next chapters are way better. The mangaka made it a point that every chapter outdoes the previous one. There's a LOT going on in the Europe arc.

Nodame. She just captured my heart entirely and left me glowing inside and out.

Nodame Cantabile is a story of musicians, Chiaki Shinichii and Noda Megumi, striving to overcome memories that haunt them.

The story is simple since this is a slice of life genre, it deals more of what life of a musician is all about, especially musicians with bad memories. I scored 9 on the story because even though the plot is simple, the realism in it is admiring.

At first glance, my impression of the art is "Honey and Clover?" When I checked, both animations have the same animators, J.C Staff. I thought, "hmmmm..." The use of light colors was amazing. They even made it to the point where everything is proportional. The drawback is, I cannot distinguish the faces of the characters. Some of the minor characters have the same facial features, making it difficult who is who. What I love on the animation is how the hands, fit into the notes of the music. It is not just a bunch of random drawings of people sitting on pianos, playing violins and performing in orchestras, but the hands play exactly what the music portrays. Their animation cannot fool the eyes of a musician. Although timing the animation and the music is hard, I believe, but I wish they could do more of those (a personal opinion because I love watching the hands of musicians playing their instruments rather than watching them perform from afar).

The music is also perfect. I just wished though that I knew the pieces played so that I could judge that they did add notes unto the piece when the story says so. But as a classical music lover, it is definitely outstanding.

I love the characters in the anime. Megumi, the fun loving, childish pianist while Shinichii the strict, perfectionist jack-of-all-music-trades, clash as opposite characters. But despite the irony, they fit together snuggly. The growth of the characters was clearly shown when both tried to overcome their past to strive for a better future.

I absolutely enjoyed watching this series. Definitely a top list in my "rewatch series." It gives comedy and romance a different perspective at one time. I wasn't able to help myself at giggling at the silly antics of Megumi and the iron attitude of Shinichii while also falling in love on their relationship and struggles.

If you like nothing-of-the-absurd types of anime like Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile should definitely be on your list and a top at that.

I'm going now, out to get my own DVD copy of this series.
