That's how it is for me too! They just sit there and kinda do nothing but take up space.
I remember, it took me like 2 weeks until I got to the final episode of Denno Coil after watching the first 25. I guess I just take 2 week-long breaks in between animes and their finales, lol. >.<

yeah, it was interesting on the last episode to see the mother have to make that choice... but I never would have been able to guess that...
Other than that... I really have to compare Monster to a modern day Soap Opera... plenty of side characters and plot twists and eventually at the end of a season something 'drastic' will happen that changes someone's life forever
But that's just my opinion =D
