About slpless
I became an anime fan fall of my sophomore year in high school. I was sitting with 2 of my friends during lunch and they were talking about downloading anime in particular, The Vision of Escaflowne. Then I mentioned that it'll probably take 16 hours on a download and asked if it was any good (since one is willing to spend so long to download)? They looked at me with a dumbfounded look and one of them told me they would bring the first volume (VHS) tomorrow. After I watched all of Escaflowne, she then loaned me her entire collection, which includes, Lain, Cowboy Bebob, Outlaw Star, etc. After she graduated I went through a dark ages so to speak. My main source of anime was gone and the only available anime was the local Hollywood Video. Needless to say I watched quite a bit of crap. I had a revival so to speak in spring 2003 when I got a summer job so I can actually buy good anime as well as discovering fansubs.

In general, I prefer more serious and dramatic anime however, above all else I like good anime. So I'll pretty much watch anything as long as its good. Well that is minus yaoi, shounen-ai, and shoujo-ai.

As for real life crap, I'm 23 years old and a recent graduate in Aerospace and Mechanical engineering. I currently work for a major Aerospace company in El Segundo, Ca guess which one…. Besides anime and manga, I enjoy reading, movies, psychology, and just about everything else. Of course I'm interested in aerospace and all things mechanical, as I did spend 5 hellish years getting my bachelors. In addition, I'm also a budding audiophile, sighs, anime and audio equipment my wallet hates me.

One day I realized that my writing sucks and I need to do something about it. I guess all those years of writing technical reports and labs does that to you. So what better way to improve than to write about something I love, anime. If you read one of my reviews and found one of them "not helpful" or "helpful" please PM or comment telling me why. Also, I better not hear anything like "your opinion sucks" its "helpful" or "not helpful."

I am not, nor have ever claimed to be objective when it comes to reviewing. That is impossible with any review, or anything really. So take my reviews with a grain of salt and take them as nothing more than my opinion. Therefore, when I claim something is bad or good, what I really mean is “In my opinion I like/dislike this aspect.” However, saying such things would be awkward and the current standard of reviewing is to simply leave out the IMO part as its implied.

Wow, you and your Lucky Star squad are pretty slow. I expected a comment from you a few month ago. You were probably to busy sucking off Konatas dick in one of the Lucky Star futa fanfictions, from the typical SUPERKAWAIIXDDD^^*_*O_OROFLXDD MyAnimeList forum users, to notice my more than obviously copied review.

Oh and: "Feel free to do whatever you wish to him." really made my day.

I have another recommendation for you. Whenever you get the time in that backlog of Anime you have waiting for you, check out Higurashi no Naku Koro ni as well as the sequel Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, a very good series in my opinion.

I just noticed this guy completely copied your review of Azumanga and used it in a slightly changed format for his Lucky Star review. Feel free to do whatever you wish to him.

Nice review on "Kiddy Grade".
Saved me the trouble of getting it and watching it.
Off course, I'll never know for sure if that was the right decision, but your review seemed sincere and balanced.
We seem to share an overall opinon: "Somewhat High" compatibility, so it probably was.

damn backlogged anime! I here you there man. There just seems to be so much anime and so little time to get to it.

You have some nice reviews. If only I had the grammar and writing ability to form coherent sentences, then I would write my own =P

Anyways, You should check out Darker then Black and Noein, unless you've already seen them, I found them to be very well thought out and well written and in my opinion entertaining.

Mm. It's just not my sort of comedy, or story, I don't think. As fresh as the delivery may seem, the story doesn't seem very fresh at all.

I thought that your Gurren review was very well articulated. I too disliked the show, but apparently didn't hold out as long as you did, dropping the show after the first few episodes. For such a highly rated show, it didn't seem that any of the areas that mattered really were spectacular (the usual anime character archetypes, albeit more flat than usual, a run-of-the-mill anime 'plot', etc.). [Shrug] I'm thankful at least you had one review that wasn't a 9 or a 10 among all those other brisk fans. Great profile, too! [Grin]

If you hated Tree of Palme, then I think I'll like it. I must check it out now, since you hated Spirited Away.

J/K, man. I actually agree with your Gurren Lagann and Chobits reviews. Both are overrated tripe.

Nice review of spirited away. I've always felt that it wasn't what people made it out to be, overrated, and essentially made to show off some nice animation. Glad to see someone else shares my point of view.

Generally, I've found that your reviews will determine whether or not I'd watch a series while scoping it out (if you've written one for it).
So I was considering the original Gundam series when I read your review and decided to peek over at your profile and I found that we have very high compatibility. Should have guessed. : )

Hey

Just read your Kaiji review....surprised you gave it a 4. Although you are right about the part that Kaiji only grows as a gambler...and not really as a person.

Because later on in the story (manga at least), that's all he pretty much thinks about. And it consumes him, he starts to find ways to cheat in every gamble.

But then again, the anime is about gambling, and not "real life"....so I think the author succeeded in diong what he did.

Well, the reason I quote rotten tomatoes is because I have more faith in their ability to critique and analyze a movie. Most of the time I find anime-only reviewers to be very biased, giving animes like Death Note and Naruto 10's while masterpieces like Princess Mononoke and Wings of Honneamise (movies that highly respect the art of filmmaking) get 4's and 5's.

Guess that makes me different.

I think I agree with you, though. Everyone has an opinion, and if 3 percent don't like it then to them it is not a good movie. Guess it makes sense when you put it that way, but I still think those opinions rely more on subjective bias than actual movie critics who try their best to remain objective and unbiased.

lol, my sole purpose for clicking on your profile was your picture. Is it by Naru Nanao? The eyes look familiar, but you can never be sure. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of hers, so I always feel a bond with her other fans.

Also, it seems as if we share 140 anime, which is quite a lot. And your favourite anime is also one of my favourites: Honey and Clover. Best romance/slice of life ever made, isn't it?

I have to say that I completely disagree with your Spirited Away review.

This movie is so imaginative, memorable, well directed and well-crafted, that there is no reason it should deserve a 3. Read all of the professional critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. They are neither children nor Japanese adults, and 97% of them adored the movie. It's also the top rated anime film on IMDB. This many people can't be wrong. Especially critics whose jobs are to watch and critique movies.

It's a great movie, and I enjoy it thoroughly. It really stands up to multiple viewings, unlike a bunch of other crap animes that are so long and drawn out that you can barely watch them once. So for a two hour movie, I'd say Spirited Away did a good job developing the characters and the world. And plot should not be so heavily judged. Plot is just what happens in a story, so you can't really objectively critique a plot negatively unless it is totally derivative and/or unimaginative, which Spirited Away is not.
