This is where opinion can differ. Sure, fan-based material are not official. However, doujinshi is so deeply integrated within the manga (and anime) fandom (particularily in Japan) that it cannot simply be cast away as simple "amateur" works. We hold the point of view that doujinshi, even though non-official (and in some case, non-original), should be included on MAL as an important asset in the database. It will certainly make MAL database more complete, because no matter how you think of doujinshi, a lot of users are reading it and it would be great to keep track of them (and have the possibility to discuss it with other members)
However, we don't want to impose this on other users so that is why we suggested a more flexible filter. But then, we are aware that such actions can lead to bandwidth problems on MAL, so that suggestion must be put on hold until MAL has expanded further.
Yes, you may think that we are asking too much of MAL without contributing to it and you may think we are only the minority. After all, ressources shouldn't be wasted to accomodate the minority. However, notice that the database was already there and only needs maintenance. What frustrated us is not necessarily the fact that it was removed, but the fact that it was removed without (much) consultation from the MAL community. It is also frustrating that members of our club are being ostracized or ridiculed for sustaining our opinion.
