Having recieved the following "Club messaging has been disabled for now. This will likely return in the future." every time I try to message all club members. And after spending about an hour trying to find out if they even have an ETA on the return, I decided I have to do this the old fashioned way.
Time to nominate your favorite anime!
Rules are simple, nominate a single anime or second one that someone else has nominated.
You may nominate something you have nominated before, but not a previous winner.
Any finished anime series, movie, or finished OAV is eligible. Any anime series currently airing is not.
Please include a url link to the anime that you are nominating as occasionally the name is repeated, but the series are completely different (i.e. Macross).
This thread will remain open until 3 June 2012 and is located here.
Hey! Sure - no problem. Here we go... Cowboy Bebop is a funky Sci-Fi Western mixed with martial arts and comedy ingredients. What drives the series foremostly, are the likable and diverse characters, such as Spike Spiegel - the loose canon/bounty hounter cowboy. Together with his crew, the sexy and checky Faye and long-time partner/friend Jet, the sensible type of guy, he chases all kinds of criminals through the galaxy. Their chemistry appears really natural, creates a lot of amusing situations and tensions, and once another member joins the team, they somewhat become a family.
The stories hardly ever get boring, and the mood really changes from episode to episode. For instance, some are rely heavily on comedy, whereas others have a darker tone, especially once we learn about Spike's past. However, the basic premise is that there's a bounty to catch in one way or another. And the series grand finale is certainly one the most moving ones in anime history, I can promise you that.
The soundtrack/themes are quite distinctive, and some of them take getting use to, but overall they complement the atmosphere quite well and underscore emotional and funny moments superbly.
The animation is fine, no complaints there, however one must consider that CB is an older series, therefore the animation standards are in accordance with the times.
Hope these impressions help you somewhat in your decision, I personally think its an anime milestone that is really accessable to any anime newcomers as well as hardcore fans. There's a lot to like in the series, whether its the key characters, the action sequences, the music, the sheer creativity of the series as a whole. If you enjoyed the series, you should also check out the movie - its excellent.
