Hey fellow animefans
I was quite hesitant to join here until my brother showed me how easy it was to add anime, compared to other sites. Now I'm just glad I found this site, considering I have watched anime for some time now.
My anime time started around 2003 when I discovered Love Hina through Newgrounds. Got it from Kazaa before I discovered torrents, but the breakthrough didn't happen before I asked a friend of my if he knew a show about ninjas, surprisingly he knew one, Naruto. Then I found another friend who watched Naruto as well and he introduced me torrents, it was the first time I saw 35 episodes without rest, lol. A shame Naruto is a disaster now though since it started so well, and the manga following the same bad course. Thanks to animesuki I downloaded a lot of animes during my ''anime-primetime'', now everything is just boring, each with different coating what've seen before. But hey I'm still watching anyway, in case there is a show that catches my interest each year.
So as they say in Japan: Yoroshiku, or nice to meet you!
PS! I'd love to discuss anime with 'serious' random people :D
Fall Season 2009: 90% standard crap. Most generic: Sacred Blacksmith, Best show: Darker than Black. Update; Aoi Bungaku is

sorry for such a delay, got some sudden IRL stuff happened.
as for English and Swedish, I'm ok in any case since they're both foreign for me. but me Swedish is not so good, since I haven't practised for a long time and just kept reading instead of writing myself, so my post won't be so big and detailed if you compare them to an English once. so it doesn't really matter =)

>> I find hard to believe, characters which are wrapped in a conspiracy world, focusing more on whats going around than the people themselves.
you know, I've developed a one nice criteria, though it's a little bit biased and uncertain, but people can be divided into those who enjoy photos of nature and those who enjoy photos of people. as for me, I'm the second type =) when you look through photos I bring from vacations you most likely will find only various photos with people and very few of nature and common sightseeing objects in that area =) the same goes with reading, I need some believable characters which are really interesting to follow. it doesn't mean that a whole book should be a description. the best way to describe a character is to describe his behaviour and moves.
>> If you are referring to so called abstract art that make no sense I agree with you.
few of my friends do like this kind of art, or they just pretend to like it cause it's kind of fashion and I've attended several exhibitions here and there in Moscow. the only thing I can say, Picasso is freaking awesome comparing to what they showed us on those exhibitions. it was ridiculously pretentious and has no meaning at all, or it's meaning was deeper that Mariana trench for mere humans like me or my friend to understand it -___-"
>> My favourite characters from books are usually those who works hard towards their goal.
then you should really enjoy shounen anime xDD they like to show guys training hard and finally reaching their goal. as for me, all Japanese spirit is about this training and hard-working everydays which bring you happiness someday. they even have a proverb about sitting for three days on the stone and gaining some profit from it (can't remember it correctly, my sensei showed it to me a year ago or something =))

>> If I read you right, you mean we should continue to type English?
for me it's ok either way, cause if we stick with English, it will help me to brush it up, if with Swedish (or Norsk on your side) ok too, since I need to practice it someday. maybe it would be a good choice to find some Swedish animefan here, since lots of Swedish folks like anime =)
>> I've read 3-4 books written by Hamsun. Personally I think they are a treat to read, gives me a good feeling since he fleshes out "real" characters. I relate myself with some of the characters and if he managed to do it then its good for me.
a believable character is one of the biggest problem in modern literature, actually. present writers concentrate on hypertext and plot constructing or wordplays and tend to give less attention to people they try to picture in their books and they become more and more distanced from people they want to sell their books too. it reminds me the situation with modern art which is now horrible in my opinion. they produce some crap and label it as ununderstandable masterpiece which can be realized only by some elitists -___-"
as for Russian literature, there are a lot of good women characters with whom I can at least try to relate myself, but most of them too tragic and end up being dead or alone =) (Anna Karenina for example, she's my namesake btw =))

>> No way you know about Knut Hanmsun? Respect!
actually I do not worth your credits, cause I haven't read even a one of his books. though I read some books about him and few articles here and there. it's almost impossible to find his works translated here. and my Swedish is not good enough to read it in Norsk. as for Norwegian literature, I read few Ibsen pieces and that's probably all. heard of Erlend Loe a lot, but haven't read him yet. so there's nothing to be proud of xDDD
>> I think we are a few among people who like what the masses generally like.
hm... I'm not so sure, you know. I tend to think and people used to tell me that my taste is rather weird sometimes. even though I like shounen (long-lasting The Great Three is my eternal dirty pleasure xD)and pointless action to some degree, I mostly enjoy mindfuck and twisted anime series or movies. the best one is that makes you think and analyse reality trying to understand those animes and yourself as well.
>> And believe it or not Kimblee for me is a believable character
you should've check out my "favourite characters" section and easily find there Kimbley. he's amazing. he express all my thoughts about those angst characters which appear every time they show us war. like we're so poor, we had to kill people... I mean those people just have no any resolve at all, they're just winning and crying out loud about their problems and war memories. but, c'mon, you fought and you won (or you didn't), so it means you had something to protect, and at least for the sake of this something, that you've been struggling to save, you should be calm and positive. cause people do not fight to die or to kill, they fight to live. it's my very opinion and I do not like all those characters with a war past which pose themselves as victims. they're not victims, they're protectors of their homeland and their people and should be proud of it. in FMA case it lasted only one episode, so it's ok, they've overcome their weakness and now ready to move. and Kimbley is the most honest to oneself character I've ever met. he doesn't hide behind false excuses, or construct a shell out of some stereotypes and social norms, he's a true one-piece character. but it doesn't make him plain. he's just solid. (I came up with an example from Russian literature, sorry if it will be too vague, but I guess this personality is as solid as Kimbley is. he's name is Pierre Bezukhov and he was created by Tolstoy in War and Peace. though he's a total positive character, he knows no doubt in his living as Kimbley do)
+ 100 to all your DtB thoughts (if I copy-paste them this post will be as long as a War and Piece is xDDD)
>> do you think HeixYin relationship is a romance relationship? I, myself think no, for me its more like a brotherxsister, or some family feeling.
I think so as well, cause he haven't shown any interest in her as a woman, more like a someone he cares about and want to protect. but maybe it counts cause Japanese do like to show females as whining and useless stuffer for men who fight their battles. I think he should definitely end up with Kiirihara! she's smart and hot, Yin is like a typical speechless which exists solely for a one purpose - to show us an epicness of a main hero =)
PS so, it's a looong looong post xDDD
you should probably reconsider your opinion about English, cause if we stick with Swedish on my side, I won't be able to write walls of text since my Swedish sucks xDDD

yep, I personally think that the first ark or story was awesome. it's so full of depression and inevitability. so I like it a lot. for me it was a Dostoevsky style anime (for you it was probably Knut Hamsun, but I'm not sure =)). director's work was awesome, colouring and OST were great too. and I don't think it was all that weird... it's just the best way to show us some of a human head inner universe, which is normally suppressed by social norms and other well-known stuff =)
as for FMA I personally don't think about it as about shounen, cause shounen in my opinion is more about some random guy who steadily approaches his final goal through fights and other "manly" stuff. in FMA Roy, Olivia and many others are main heroes as well and there's no pathetic lines like "believe in yourself" or "fight until the very end", etc. but I guess it's not seinen either, cause we haven't seen any development in Roy-Riza relationship (damn that stupid man!!! he should have already proposed to her!!! >__<). so I guess you can call it a some unusual variation of chounen :3
I think you're somehow right about people being negative when speaking about DtB 2. but for me the biggest fail were those Russian parts... it's easy not to pay attention to those details when they try to picture US or Latin America, but when it comes to Russia, I can see all of their mistakes so clearly it makes me wonder is it really that difficult to find some Russian assistant there? cause I know that lots of Russians actually live in Japan, so it not impossible. but then comes an answer - they just don't count us as a region to distribute their production. or they just don't care (which is an even more cruel explanation). and those Sailor Moon-like transformations with a gun which appear from her necklace in cherry blossoms... -___-
but overall story seems to be good enough to never mind those obstacles and just enjoy the show =)

lol, it really was too bad that Canaan turned out so mediocre despite how well it started. The characters looked cool at first (seriously, the designs for each character are excellent), and then it's like nothing was really done to make them special. =(
The Sacred Blacksmith...I swear...every other scene in that anime has a sexual reference...no matter how subtle. Like...silly stuff like how "his [Luke's] katana is on fire!", that ballock knife, seriously, it's just ridiculous in addition to the titty talk.
While I like criticizing bad shows, it does miff me that several of the shows that I do like aren't free from negative reviews. I guess it is to be expected of virtually all shows that meet the masses. Generally there will be people who either like or hate it. Hopefully my time spent on this site will broaden my tastes and make me more objective as a reviewer.
I'm wondering if maybe my biggest problem as a reviewer is that I'm a sucker for ecchi romance comedies in general, because I find shows like Sora no Otoshimono and SHUFFLE! very enjoyable...because they inspire "creative" thoughts from me. No, The Sacred Blacksmith is not part of that genre, it just is failing at attempting to be part of that genre. =P

hey! =)
yep, Canaan is a one more generic chick-with-guns anime. -___-"
I don't like type-moon in general, they tend to create artificial characters and make them announce some nonsense. all dialogues are almost meaningless, especially in Tsukihime. the same goes to Canaan. sometimes I felt like they've copypasted few lines from generic pulp fiction they found on their way home in some random store. and all characters are completely awful. there were a theatre director in Russia who told his actors: "I don't believe you!", when they impersonated not good enough. it was my line during all the episodes of Canaan. why should I believe that it's possible for Canaan and that stupid blonde to be friends? o_O
don't want even mention the plot, it was a complete nonsense from the very beginning. really stupid, straightforward and rough.
I gave it 4 in the end. only for the animation, cause it was nearly awesome.
PS I see you're from Norway. do you happen to speak bokmål? in this case I think I'll be able to understand you, because of it similarity with Swedish =)
