I somehow felt the same atmosphere in both animes. Also the main characters have the same determination to reach their goals so these are quite similar.

Akatsuki's character design is very similar to Naruto's. And somewhat the plot is that tipical shounen anime: the main male character want to be stronger and defeat the bad guys and of course he has suffering memories of his childhood. But he decides to keep going forward and protect his precious friends.
