Mob Psycho seemed to have that effect on a lot of people! Easy to see why though, Kameda and Tachikawa did a great job with it.

I've always had a sort of interest in animation and the potential it had, so anime was only natural for me to get into. Though I didn't start regularly consume anime until 5 years ago or so. I only ended up getting into anime by chance when I came across bunch of K-ON! episodes on the internet. I practically marathoned the entire show because it felt unlike anything I've really watched and I ended up wanting to watch more. So K-ON!! is more or less responsible for me getting into anime in the first place. I am having a little more trouble now keeping up with it with college and all, but it's something I still love!

My interest in sakuga is something that came about once I started paying attention to the creators behind the things I loved. Discovering that the Welcome to the NHK OP was done by Masashi Ishihama and that he had done other awesome OPs was probably one of the things that really started me towards that hole. That desire to know the people behind the scenes eventually ended up to me appreciating animators and cuts themselves. I am still not that very good with animators though, or at least knowing of them and being able to describe why I might like a certain cut. Especially since I am bad about picking out specific elements or details. I'm still a bit more focused on directors and episode directors so animators and character designers are something I really need to start zeroing in on and finding out more for myself.

As for my favorites, I uh, happen to be a very big KyoAni fan. I know a lot about the studio and the people behind them, and their works resonate with me a ton. Theres a lot of KyoAni people I could add to my favorites like Takemoto, Ueno, Takao, etc though I try not to go overboard. The three I have on my list are probably my favorites from the studio though. Yamada as a director, Horiguchi as a character designer, and Kigami as an animator (and an amazing episode director). I actually have some production materials for some of their works too that i bought from their store, so yeah I like KyoAni a ton. Though that also means a lot of my knowledge is centralized into them, so I am not as knowledgeable about...everything else in the industry. Not to say i don't know anything, but it's something I could definitely improve on.

Thats interesting! I haven't seen Beautiful Dreamer yet, but i've seen his work from that and other Yatsura cuts and they've always been absolutely wild. I think it's cool that you put on your favorites as a way of giving recognition though, especially great considering how much of an influence on other animators hes been. How long have you been watching anime and how did you start looking at in a different level? Like, did you have any sort of piece of media that sparked your interest in learning about sakuga and the people behind it?

Hello there! I ended up stumbling onto your profile and I couldn't resist messaging you with such an interesting group of favorite people. It's always great to see creators like Yamada, Oishi, Kameda etc getting some sort of recognition, but I think I was most caught surprise by Masahito Yamashita. Certainly not the sorta animator I would expect to see on someone's MAL, but it's a very pleasant surprise. How did you find out about Yamashita and what makes him stand out for you to consider him one of your favorite animators?
It’s time to ditch the text file.
