I used to think all anime was like Dragon Ball Z or Pokemon, boring dragged out shows with little character growth, sweat beads and flashing backgrounds. I apologize if these examples of anime were your favorites, but the were not my choice of entertainment.
My opinion changed after being introduced to movies like Akira or any Hayasaki film. In the last few years, I started watching the top anime on MAL and discovered that I liked anime about young love, pervert boys and girls, horror and comedy. There are so many great stories and characters in anime, with stories that are adult, but not in your face adult like American animation.
